Some Amateur MMA questions

Hello everyone,

So i have a few questions about amateur fights

1) Do you NEED to fight out of a gym to get a amateur fight?
2) How does moving from amateur to pro work?
- Is there a certain requirement/ record?

1. Not sure how it works in Canada but in our organisation in the UK you can fight as an independant fighter. Altho my suggestion would be to get into a gym, train hard and let your team sort a fight out for you.

2. Again not sure if it is the same for you guys but you would need to show that you have a good AM record before taking the steps to go PRO. This should be something that you discuss with your team before doing. Our trainer like you to have atleast 12 AM fights before taking the step up, plus having a good record and show that you can hang with the PRO's. Also maybe get a couple of fights with PRO fighters at AM rules.

I hope that this has helped. Maybe some one from Canada could give you a better low down on how things are done there.

Here in Massachusetts you can just go PRO with no amateur fights at all.

I'd also suggest finding a gym and team to train with most promotors now usually shy away from the "Independant" fighters because they don't put on good fights and ususally just get smashed/choked out in the first round.

That and most gyms have guys that know the matchmakers, so its easier to find a fight that way.
