so far I have lost two fights due to ground and pound, I already know I need to work on take down defense and some ground game, but if you could help me out and be a little specific on what I need to work on, that would be great. I'm sick of these guys not wanting to stand and bang with me, so alittle advice please.
Take some bjj classes and some boxing classes. Loosen up a bit, and when your on your back. Don't always look to stand up really fast, that is how you got caught and he took your back, do it more intelligently.
What does intependant fighter mean? That you don't have a gym or club? If so I would strongly suggest that you join one as they will greatly help you improve not only your ground game but standup aswell and I think you will see the improvements yourself more than anyone.
Also just try and relax, if someone gets you down it's still not the end if you can't get up, you can sweep and even still pull of subs. they are things you can't really train yourself in though.
Yeah man ive been wrestling for about 7 years, and ive learned when your on your back, wrap your arms around the guy so that your bodies are touching and use that Core muscle, wait for him to try something.
And when i get pined, dont waste your strength on anything other then hanging on to the guy, because its about saving your energy.
Because to get out of being pined down, its all about those "Bursts" where your wrapping your arms around the guy and waiting for him to try to just get you off, by using his elbow or punching and in the process you "Burst" by popping your hips to a sitting position, and shoot for his legs, and try to get to a knee, and from there u either stand up or maybe reverse if u catch him off guard enough....
Reading back... Its F'ing harder to explain then i thought.......
The way he had you pinned, the butterfly guard, or just legs on his hips would give you distance, and learn those up kicks! I dont know if you are allowed in that fight but that would of landed hard if you aimed it and he tried to jump into your guard.
Either way Hawndo's Right
Its like trying to be a a priest without going to church..... You have to have a gym or a camp with a group of guys and a couch with experience and guys you can learn First Hand about this shit, and they will see your weaknesses and what to work on.....
I thought i would do good because i wrestle until i met people that knew Bjj....

join a brazilian jui jitsu gym.. you shouldnt even try fighting untill you have close to a blue belt. also your stand up is pretty shit..i mean you look tuff but your technique is crap... very loose punches, you dropped your hands horribly even on the knee. defently get some muay thai training. its all about technique in this sport

Wouldn't have put it that blunt myself like, dude came here lookin for help, not to be insulted.
Anyone willing to step in the cage deserves respect for at least having a go.
That said the standup does leve alot to be desired but like I said before, joining a gym and getting coaching will make a remarkable difference. Having the heart to step into the cage, heart is one of the things some people need and some have, bouncing back from a loss and learning from it is one of the most important step you can take - everyone gets beat.
Keep at it and work hard and all will work out mate, you did sho potential.
I give you a ton of credit for stepping into the cage and fighting. You have a ton of aggression but you need to work on your technique. You're throwing crazy looping punches and throwing them from your hip and not your shoulders. You should really find an MMA school and train for a year or more then get back into the cage and fight again.
Your problem seems to be mat time bro. You need to be in a gym pinned underneath guys who know what they are doing everyday and working on your striking and sparring with guys under the supervision of coaches to help you correct your technique. You just don't seem to have hours and hours of time on your feet and on your back and in bad spots like when he had your back, which is very important. Its just a matter of experience and having more technically proficient guys helping you to improve. If you having fun then great, but if you really want to look to improve you need a gym or at the very least find a few other independant fighters who have different strengths and work out as much as you can together and exchange techniques, or watch lots of instructional vids and drill the stuff on them with them.
What exactly does your training consist of at this point?
