What constitutes an amature fight?

I was wondering what exactly makes an amature fight count for record...If I am fighting at a local gym along with a few other guys, all of whom are amature, does it count? Or does there have to be a promoter and an advertised event?

Im pretty sure they have to be sanctioned ....But that off the top of my head and not asking around

It usually is an advertised event, something taking place at a gym is usually a smoker which doesn't actually count for anything, its basically just a exabition.

All my amature fights where non sactioned fights seeing as until march we didn't have a athletic commision, but the promotion reports the results to MMA.tv which is an offical record keeper for the athletic commisions across the country.
