Body Shots on the Ground

I was watching back on my last fight that was in ama rules.
So no head shots allowed.

My opponent was smiling when I hit him to the body on the ground. Also I didnt really feel any effect off his strikes either.

It was making me think. Are body shots on the ground worth using? Or is it best to stick to grappling on the ground in ama fights?

this is the link to my fight by the way

I was mainly pawing him to distract from me passing his guard. My last 2 fights I used hammers to the solar plexus. Seemed to work.
If you watched the vid you would have noticed the sneaky head shots he got in and the ref didnt notice haha

Friend of mine was fighting a few months ago, semi-pro rules (not sure what differences are between rule sets and countries etc) but there were no head shots on the deck, and he TKo'd the guy by hammering him in the body for 2 1/2 rounds.

So yeah they are worth it if you hit hard enough and long enough.

Here in Massachusetts our amateur rules are the same as pro rules except we can't knee to the head or use elbows at all...

But as far as body shots go I love using them from half guard if im trying to pass ill sit out on one hip and drop bombs on his midsection it usually makes them let go of their guard and passing to side control or mount is easy then.

i like body shots standing up but i prefer to grapple on the ground. maybe paw them to look busy while looking for passes and subs and so on.

Body shots are vital on the ground.

If you can soften up his ribs and really dig in repeatedly dig in on him it's going to take effect. With the way he defends if he's hurt. With his breathing and with the way he moves when he grapples.

An injured opponent makes mistakes. That's why you punish him in all areas. Hit him heavy and often to the body when you can in a GNP situation.
