Choosing another Fighting style?
Theres a wide variety of martial arts, MMA and various self defence style classes being offered near me
I did Karate from when I was 5 years old to 14 years old, acheiving a 2nd Dan black belt, which I do regret quitting, but I was young and stupid and got bored of it, so I quit it, regretfully
But now, 3 years on, I want to begin a different form of fighting, but I'm not sure what
I'm 5ft 8, I excercise regularly, havnt got long limbs, but have a good deal of strength about me
It's hard to make a decision on what style, there's BJJ, muay Thai, kickboxing an various others, theirs Wing chun and some more Chinese martial arts, and also A Krav Maga class aswell
What would anyone recommend?
Its always on the you to decide honestly. I give my thoughts on what i have trained.
BJJ is hard because you will have to deal with being dominated a lot, its not as hard in that respect as wrestling though, it might be the easiest to get to grips with though, really hard to master.
Kickboxing is hard to learn technically, although maybe not as much for a Karate guy...most spend a long time looking and feeling like a retard before the breakthrough comes and you start kicking right.
Muay Thai is the toughest, you have to be damn tough to keep coming back to Muay Thai - just clinch training will drain you into nothing and leg kicks are the worse.
I would say wrestling. Seems like karate would have given you a prety good stand up game and you need to work on the ground game.
Kick boxing may be a great choice too though to kind of switch up the type of stand up skills.
Sounds like you could do with some ground skills. I have been thinking of Krav Maga too though, looks fun :) no good for ring work though.
