Sitting back on guard
I don't box anymore, but the last time fought someone they were sitting back on their guard and I couldn't work out how to get by it.
Heres an image
Basically the guy had a long reach. He had his hands extended right out in the guard position whilst his body was leaning away.
He couldn't really offer any offense but as an offensive boxer (slugger) I wanted to hit him. Trouble is that when I moved in, he would short jab me. If I tried for angles, he was so far back he could easily adjust.
How exactly would I have beaten him with that approach?
You could have tried (first you would have needed to train that) to close distance peek-a-boo style and instead of going for the head, you could have gone to the body first as due to his stance it's closer to you and rather open (his upright stance makes his body a bigger area and his extended hands have his elbows not protecting his body). After hitting his body he probably would adjust to protect his body which creates the openings to aim for his head.
