So Im having a boxing match and i need help

Im goiing to box a guy with similar physical traits, his reach is the same as mine, and his height is the same as mine...but im much stronger and thicker than he is.

He is probably going to come out swinging for the fences but people say that can lead to you getting knocked out.

I was thinking I should keep jabbing at him when he'c coming at me and ocasionaly throw a straight right until he gets tired...and thats when i start swinging...

tell me is that a good idea....

sorry Im a n00b at this but Im really anxious to learn

Just be calm and enter the fight very confident. Make sure to keep your hands up at all times. I suggest coming out very aggressively and letting him know that your not playing around. Start by throwing hooks! This will show him your not afraid to stand. Be smart and you will win.

Use the jab to keep him from getting too aggresive and keep him at distance.
Circle away from his power hand with jabs and then come in with straight and hooks.

make sure to stay relaxed, keep your hands up and put them back up after you throw.

Going to the body is a good idea too and then go for the hed once he sets up his defense to the body. Make sure to stay mobile, don't stand still and when he rushes you get him up against the ropes, unleash to the body and follow up with hard shot to the head. Always be sure to mind your surroundings and never get close to the ropes!

If he's an elusive fighter this can be tricky. Elusive fighters tend to be constantly moving and look to parry when you throw. They also tend to constantly move away from you, then when you decide to come in and throw they come forward and hit you with shots. Same thing here; use the jab. It's the most underrated strike in fighting nowadays. Jabs can lead to power punches if you set them up right.

It would also be useful to know if he's a southpaw or orthodox fighter.
Good LUck

Good advice so far. I agree with staying relaxed. However, that does not mean to slow down and take it easy. Just try to stay calm. Don't try to over think it or you will just end up standing in front of him and getting tagged. Don't be a stationary target. Don't let your opponent circle you. Jab to move in. Throw two and three punch combinations. Body and head. If you get him on the ropes make him pay. This isn't sparring, so get in the right frame of mind. Good luck!

As Southpaw said, it would be good to know if he is orthodox or southpaw. If he is a southpaw and you are orthodox, try to get your lead foot ouside of his foot. Throw straight rights against the southpaw. Don't overthink it though.
