How do you fight a non-fighter

I have limited fight training, a little karate and a little boxing, but I train a few times a week on my own; mainly heavy bag work with punching/kicking combo's. Anyway, I feel that my fighting skills are probably better than 90%+ of NON-fighters, and I think I could hold my own against ;most people with limited or no training. However, I've always wondered, how do you go about fighting someone that goes all out ape $hit wild charging in and throwing haymakers left and right? You can't really box someone like this, so what do you do?

yha you can box them duck and slip punches then knock him out.

it depends on the style in bagua what i take we would side step then counter palm strike kick or throw him.

Its all about good footwork.

I have had experience with non fighters. There stand up is really bad. The throw slow highly telegraphed punches. Easy to avoid. You really dont need to get to detailed when fighting non trained people. Streight punches usually work fine. I will usually just work my jab until I find a opening for a right or hook to end it and then swarm the crap out of them.

You just bassically have to get the one shot in that will daze them and then swarm and finish. They will always ball up if they arent trained because they arent used to getting hit and you can just unload on them. Keep in mind you still have to keep proper form because nothing sucks more then a sucker punch

I'm talking about the type of fights you usually see on youtube; guys coming in and just throwing a viscious barrage of combos until they gas. When I said "non-fighters", I meant guys that didn't train competitively, not necessarily guys that can't throw a punch.

Take a look at Belfort vs Silva. What kind of defense can you have against an attack like that?

MLS 04-03-2008 10:52 AM

Silva went straight back wehn he shoud of gone back at an angle. When you go back in a straight line you are very easy to hit but when you step back at angles it makes you harder to hit and creates angles for you to hit the other guy.

IMO fighter doesnt 'fight' the non-fighter, he just kicks his ass

cardinalfanUSA 04-03-2008 11:49 AM

Ok, stepping back at an angle makes sense, but what about defending against the initial barrage? No offense, but if anyone was getting pounded like Silva was, they're probably not going to remember to step back at angles. You're talking a dozen or so hits in a few seconds.

I highly doubt the person you are fighting is anywhere near as fast as Vitor was. Also Silva isn't know for his defense, he will eats punches. If it is stritly more of a boxing type fight where only hands are used then you need to watching boxing instead of mma to learn. Any good boxer would have step out at an angle if someone rushed in like Vitor did. You have to practice this stuff so its in your muscle memory.

hahaha screw boxing. I love my kicks. I have faught some pretty pathedic dudes, like closed eye, leaned back swing for the fences types. Best way to end it, IMO, nice cut kick right to the leg. I did this one to the big guy (230 lbs). Stupid juicer, he went ape shit on me, threw the madest hooks. I ducked sleped back, loaded up a cut kick, and down he went, you shoulda seen this dude, it was hilarious. Another one that has worked for me in the past are straight kicks right on the knee if you can.

If you can time your kicks right (execially if you do karate) use them...its hilarious...some guys will get mad, cuz theyre not expecting it...who cares. Also, as a fighter you should just totaly avoid fighting non fighters...its just emberrasing. ahaha
