What is the best way to regain your feet?

Suppose that you find yourself on the mat, on the canvas, on the sidewalk, on the ground, whatever. You are down, and your opponent is standing up.
As stupid as it may sound, my question is:
What is the best way to regain your feet?
What kinds of things should you keep in mind?
What things should you practice?
Also, can you think of matches where somebody was down, either they took a kick and they were knocked down, or they were punched and decked, or they simply slipped, either way, they found themselves on the deck.
Can you think of matches were somebody regained their feet very well and very wisely?
And can think of matches were somebody did this, but you definitely don't want to do it the way this person did?
Many thanx,
Ferdelance

Wait for them to come in, upkick them in the jaw, knock them out, then stand up.

Who was it that tried to break-dance jump to their feet, right into a face kick?

Defecato, ergo sum.

Great point. Great post.
You raise an excellent point here.Maybe I should have asked the quetion from both perspectives:
a)What is the best way to regain your feet if you find yourself down, and your opponent is standing, and
b)What is the best way to approach a fallen opponent if you are the fighter who is on his feet?
Thanx again.
