Favorite Stand-Up combos

What works for you. In my experience in the kickboxing ring my favorites are:

Jab Kick (lead leg) - Jab - Straight Right - Thrust Kick (Rear/Power Leg):
A great straight moving combo best used when your opponent makes the mistake of moving straight back instead of circling out.

Hook - Hook - Uppercut:
Best used when standing really close to someone maybe backed up against the ropes, try throwing in body hooks too. Remember people have whole bodys not just heads.

Jab - Straight Right - Roundhouse Kick (To legs or ribs):
If your opponent is one to circle out pressure him with the jab and the right and when he starts to circle catch him with the kick.

Jab - Body Hook - Head Hook:
Another close quarters combo (I'm short with small reach I fight inside alot) Try throwing both hooks with the same hand rather then rolling from one side to the other, that is an effective way of doing things but also what your opponent will expect.

For straight boxing, which I don't do much of, it's got to be the left jab- right hook. Throw the big right and knock 'em out.

As for MMA, I love the left jab- right uppercut- right knee for the KO.

Then again, I'm not much of a standup fighter.

hmm I do not do much of stand up, but once or twice ina free form sparring session in class I have turned a deflected punch, steped in with a flat palm to the side of the face, hooked the arm for a standing arm bar/drag and brought the opponent to the ground where I feel more comfortable.

as a side note when I do try the stand up game I get hit more then I usually hit, but my size is usually enough to let me take one or two good shots along with a pretty thick skull to get into a clinch and bring the oppoent down.

At the risk of sounding obnoxious: have you ever tried blocking.

yea I have, I am just not very good stand up fighting is my weakest skill. And its mainly a defensive issue. I am OK at the striking but worse at the blocking. GRappling and such I rate myself very high and have only lost if I have been severely out weighed

Double left jab then a right kick to the leg, body or head.

When it comes to striking on the feet, I love kicks and knee strikes. On the ground, it's all about the elbows.

Looking at professional sports blocking does not actually happen there guard just happens to get in the way.

If you look at top level strikers (Arlovski, Sylvia and Chuck) they do block before they start moving into combinations. It's usually to make sure that they don't get punched in the face.

It's a pretty subtle movement, usually with the front hand, but it's definitely there.
