maybe it's the arteries...
but i think it's kind of same purpose and damage as to outside - outside is better conditioned most of the time though, so inside causes more damage

Getting kicked on the inside or outside of your thigh hurts and makes your leg a lot less usable. Makes you tentative, less explosive. Not very scientific but thats why I throw them. lol

To be honest alot of strikes to the inside thigh aren't actually "meant" and are usually just misses after attempting to strike the calf/back leg region... catching the back of the upper leg can damage the sciatica nerve which if this goes can cause the leg to completely unfunction and the maneuverability of the fighter is restricted having to rely on the other leg.

But when I usually throw this kick its usually the result of trying to hit the gastrocnemius muscle and failing lol

Jeet Kun Do.....come to mind first when i read this thread. The whle artery thing clearly is something were all not clear on but part of the origin behind a leg kick is to use the longest paert of your body to make contact......(the way of the intercepting fist)..mainly for MMa its to establish distance and stop a fighters ability to plant and throw a shot in addition to throwing their balance........ Not to mention that you can dislocate a knee if you land it right...very hard to do though.....

We use the inside low kick at our camp to annoy the opponent more than anything. Throw the inside low with not so much power, bounce the foot occasionally and go with the same technique with slightly more power. Purposely telegraph the kick again as a fake and bounce to the outside thigh on the nerve and aim to take the leg out. For the inside low kick to work effectively as a power kick you would need to be aiming just above or below the knee which would effectively damage the knee or knock the opponent off balance depending on where you have connected.

As far as my education goes...a kick to the inner thigh is designed to force muscular and tendon retrention in the leg, thus limiting the height a kick can achieve and limiting the overall mobility of the limb.

As for damaging the arteries and veins...Its very nearly impossible to damage the femoral veins or arteries with blunt force trauma to the exterior of the thigh, penetration trauma is reguired...I would know, I'm an EMT to pay the bills. So don't trim your toenails!

ummmm no there are a bunch of nerves on the inside of your leg and your femoral artery and nerve if you strike it just right it will cause you leg to go numb...

Siatic nerve is on the out side more towards the back of the leg comes off your spinal cord at the top of the pelvis kinda runs through ur hip( according to my physio)... the best way to damage this nerve is to efectivley hyperextend the spinal column which puts pressure on the sheething than protects this nerve... imagine hitting yourself in the back of the head with a snow board while attatched to it (scorpioned in aus) Although uncomfortable it doesnt hinder my abiltiy to kick 6ft targets (im 5'10") No idea why inside thigh kicks other than annoyance and altering manouverabity and center of gravity
