The ability to take a punch.

I have a skinny head so I don't know how great my chin is. Does the size of your head equal your punch taking ability? Is it more neck strength? Ability to take pain?

neck strength is a big one. getting 'rocked' is when your head bounces around on the inside of your skull - so the more your head moves when it gets punched, the more likely you wont be able to 'take' aforementioned punch.

There are certain neck strength exercises you can do to raise your ability to take a punch. It doesnt mean you'll turn into mark hunt overnight, but they are certainly meant to help. Google is your friend :)

I gots me a bucket sized head and I've been knocked out a bunch of times. I'm pretty sure it depends where you get hit.

Chin size must help too. James Thompson has a thick neck, but sort of narrow chin - he gets knocked out a lot.

But frankly nobody really knows.

who are some fighters with small heads who can take a good punch

Well Fed's Head is smallish - but he's never had any probs with taking it on the chin

Kind of hard to say. In theory a bigger head and/or neck ought to be better, but it's no garuntee. I mean look at someone like Bob Sapp, his neck is bigger than my car, but when he gets hit hard he curls up in the fetal position and starts crying. Patrick Cote on the other hand, looks like a perfectly ordinary guy, but you could hit him 14 times with a two by four while he is asleep and he would wake up and kick your ass. I think a lot of it is just genetic/willpower.

I think it's more of a mental thing TBH. Im not a doctor though sooo...

Yeah, I can't think of anything else I wou ld want to hit Cote with while he was sleeping.

I don't think it has to do with willpower, strangely enough, it's called being knocked out because you literally go out. It's like having a tiny black out with none of the STDs that go along wit that.

while having a thick neck helps, i think the majority of it comes from experience, and learning how to roll with the punch instead of just letting it whip you around.
