TKD Axe Kick in MMA

The TKD axe kick is quick, deceptive, and powerful, but high risk. Am I the only one that wants to see someone perfect it for MMA?

Great kick by this TKD guy, I dont know much about the TKD axe kick but have you ever seen the Andy Hug kakato geri axe kick. The guy had many axe kick victims on his resume.
Im sure many MMA fighters would use this kick but comes with too many drawbacks unless you land a perfect textbook axekick, if you dont then its a good chance you will end up on your back.
I remember Crocop using axekicks years ago back in K1, perhaps he could of used them in MMA.
I know Glaube Feitosa the Kyokushin Karate fighter likes to use them still in K1.

It has great power, but would have to be executed with flawless technique and timing.

I'd love to see it used in MMA more, but I doubt I will due to the risk you mentioned.

If the person had precise timing it would be a powerful weapon, though many don't have the patience to even attempt to learn it.

Some may and may not be aware of the technique called "three step axe kick". I believe this might work better in MMA since instead of trying to time it as a counter just right, you could effectively use an axe kick. With this method you slide your front foot half a step towards you, take a step with your back foot foward and with the momentum cause by doing this fast you swing your back leg up and perform an axe kick. I think doing this in MMA would most of them time help distract your opponent so you could preform such a kick. Also taking that step would better help you prepare for getting taken down if this were to happen.

One of the pros I train with throws some nice axe kicks. Hasnt realy thrown them in a fight yet though. I cant get my leg that high its just not that practical for me to try to learn it, cool as hell though.

Didn't Andy Hug use his axe kick when fighting?

Some solid axe kicks by one of the greats. R.I.P. Andy Hug. If you have never seen any of Andy Hugs videos, check them out. One of the most entertaining fighters I have ever seen in any combat sport.
