sparring

i need help with my block & counter for sparring. i can push a kick down fine but my counter is not as fast as it has to be to avoid getting hit while my hands are still down from pushing down my opponent's kick. i already said i am 4-5 in shorter than everyone I spar with. they ALWAYS come in with a kick. i can't easily counter with a straight punch if their leg is still up. all that has worked for me so far is punches to the sternum (they always leave it open, they almost have muay thai hands that way) or jump up and a hammerfist to the top of the head. We have not started thai boxing yet but when we do, they will be in fear of my bony elbows.

also I have to move around more than them in an attempt to tire them out. i also need suggestions re: cutting the ring so I can catch them off guard and charge them with everything I have. i already do interval training on the treadmill to help w/this, it's my timing that needs polishing.

it's f***ing confusing i can't always remember "charge him, i cannot stand with him cuz he'll flatten me" or "run him around and tire him out."

Mostly I just want to be a worthy opponent.

She stated that they haven't started MT yet, so I don't think it's a Leg Kick. Besides, if I remember right, the OP is currently in TKD so they are probably using a kick to her body to open.

To the OP: What type of technique are we talking about here? Let me know what you're dealing with, and I might be able to suggest something. Further, you can check this thread here to see if it helps any.

I know it's a kick. I don't believe she is receiving a kick to her legs (aka leg kick). Those would be the only kicks that you "check." There are a few scenarios going through my head right now, but I won't know if they are actually applicable unless she tells me what type of kicking technique she's dealing with.
