i find doing squats/lunges (anything where i have a barbell across the top of the back of my shoulders really gets uncomfy after a while.
is there any sort of padding i can buy for a barbell to help?
maybe put a towel around it?

I used a towel when I first started working out. The only problem is that it will tend to slip. My gym has these... eBay: BARBELL PAD BAR BELL WEIGHT LIFTING (item 300058602216 end time Jun-06-07 11:15:59 PDT).
They're a cylindrical pad held on to the bar with a velcro cover.

If you are doing squats right, the pain around your neck should be about 1/10th the pain coming from the rest of your body. IE SQUATS ****ING SUCK, MAN UP!

hey as long as you dont get that terrible feeling in your back and knees, i dont mind the slight pain of a bar on my back/neck.
