That is how i did push ups but Karate. On gradings we would go to 250, "Pain" is a perfect description. I cheated at times but the machines i did it with did them properly.
My upper body and core strength is my two main areas of strength. Although i cannot do as many as i did during Karate i recently did roughly 100 proper push ups.
In some strength challenge i did not to long ago i did 59 in 60 seconds, I have no idea how and haven't got very close since. They were bound to be not the greatest technique but they were still fairly good.
Pushups are one of the exercises i am strongest in.
