Help, I'm new to MMA!

Hey, I'm 13 and 5"7 1/2, 135 Pounds and I really want to get into MMA. I am a Black Belt in Taekwondo, which is my main fighting style. I go to the gym alot, and am in shape.
There is an MMA school in Houston I am looking into, it has an amazing gym, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Juitsu, Judo, Boxing, Wrestling, and a conditioning program. I am looking into getting a membership there, but my dad won't consider it yet.
Tell me what I need to be a better fighter please?

You have plenty of time buddy! Get into a MMA school/gym and work hard......Work on technique and remember the more time you put into this sport the more you get out of it!

I would get your dad to consider signing you up, then start training. You don't know what you have in terms of skills until you start training with real MMA guys, and you honestly weren't very descriptive.

I would talk to dad even more, using the "It will teach me discipline' angle, and for now, I would check out youtube and other sites that can offer you some how-to stuff to get you aquainted with techniques and such. DO NOT START TRYING TO DO THESE THINGS WITHOUT PROPER GUIDENCE AT YOUR AGE. Its very easy to get yourself and others hurt like that. Just watch fights and techniques, and mill them over in your head until dad lets you get involved with a gym. you can also check out http://www.solomma.com/viewforum.php?f=28 for some videos explaining some of the moves.

I hope you're joking. If you are, it's funny. If you're not, it's stupid.

its gr8 2 kno there is someone like me out there. i am 14 and sum advice i can give is
1. dont let anyone put u down cuz there a lot of assholes out there that love to comment

2. Train yourself until you can get into the gym

By this i mean strength training such as

pushups
bicep curls
crunches and such

Cardio like

jumping rope
running
jogging
basically anything that makes your heart beat fast and your body sweat

Technique

if u want a basic idea of mma look at the pros on tv or youtube and try to imitate and analyze...learn why they use certain techniques

Perception

Basically train your heart out and shadowbox like crazy....this will give u the feeling of actually being in an octagon

Sparring, Pads, Bags, and Drills are also necessesary for a clean workout. PM me for more info.

If you want to know what you need to be a better fighter, it sounds like you already have it lil dude. HEART my friend. If youre really serious and you have the heart to train, and the heart to win and lose thats all you need. Everything else is just condition and techniqe, your strength, speed, and ability to learn and apply the moves. Heart is something that cant be taught, you either come with it or you dont. You have to be able to train even when you dont feel like training, if you can do that you got it.
