Combat Training

There are forms of combat training that some folks have been playing with that involve using only your own bodyweight. Are there any opinions on this style of strength conditioning?"

I'll throw my input out later.

if your meaning exercise to improve strength there are lots that use just body weight some more effective then others. Pilates for example, great for toning muscle and streaching both of which should be important to a fighter though kinda girly from a fighters prespective, not sure if any fighters use it never tried it myself but it seems to get results from what I hear

Well, Carlos Newton claims to have never lifted weights and that guy is always in unreal shape. So it obviously can be very effective.

Thanks for the link doubleleg. It was a good read and just confirms that it is indeed a very effective method of training.

Yeah, I wasn't actually thinking about gymnastics, but it's a good example.

The Don 06-18-2006 08:59 AM

hmm who would have thunk it but yea makes sense

How about balley dancers incredibily strong and flexible.

The Don 06-18-2006 09:23 AM

how would that apply to combat other then the flexability? watch a gymnast and you can almost picture them kicking somones but or a ballet dancer I'd not want one of them to kick me thats for sure.

Paw 06-18-2006 09:25 AM

Well the flexibility fluidity and strength and speed balance
