How to build hand speed

In this thread I want everything you know about building hand speed.

Im talking workout routines, technique, weight lifting, bag work, however you think the best way to improve hand speed. Also good measurable tests for hand speed.

I know this is kinda vague, but say w.e comes to mind first.

The reason for this thread is I was visiting my old gym to chill with my friends there, reminisce and all that shit. Anyways there was a big black dude (no racist) who was wearing big 16ouncers and hitting the heavy bag. He was ******* quick, quickest hands I have ever seen with my eyes. I swear to god he rattled off 6 monstrous thumping punches in a combination and I could not see any opening with which to counter. Hands were up by his chin, POW POW POW POW POW POW. Maybe i've forgotten something or been robbed in my experiences, but I just use the speed bag for hand speed and coordination. He was ******* quick and he got away before I could talk to him. Dude was ******* scary and I wanna be that.

To some extent, it's genetics. Some people naturally have more fast-twitch fibers than others. You can do specific exercises to build up your fast-twitch fibers, but someone who naturally lacks them (like me) is simply never going to match someone who does (like the guy you're talking about).

Don't push your punches, snap them. (don't fully extend your elbow)
Speed bag training
Get your punch combinations in muscle memory
More speed bag training.

I thought that was a racist concept, seriously all bias aside is this a legit thing? I'm one of those people who like to believe that people can be as good as they can will them self to be.

Speed bag is 3 times weekly for me xD, I might try and go 5-6 times a week on it, see if it makes a difference. Even after all these years I only have: jab, straight right, straight left, left hook, jab staight, jab straight left hook, right upper cut left hook, straight left hook, jab overhand right, jab leg kick, jab straight leg kick, hook jab left kick all feel like home :P

(edited: yes im a righty, I phased out my right hook because even though it hits as probably my hardest punch it never lands and ive broken it twice xD so no more right hook)

Fast twitch muscle fibers.........they can be improved some what with workouts but as posted above....some have more natural speed through genetics....there def are ways to increase your hand speed......

mainly through repetition you can increase your punch combo speed but the main thing are the styeroids he's taking.........j/k

Yea, thats what worried me. I've always had speed and accuracy as my strength, then this heavyweight utterly frightens me without anyone else knowing. Because if I fought him, I would do a lot of leg kicks and keep my hands up. But I have a strange feeling someone would have to tell me how it ended, scary fast hands >_<.

LOL if steroids made him like that.... sign me up xD jk, ive thought about using in the past. But until now I wasn't able to because i've been drug tested. But where ive been working for the past several months I've been promoted to a level that is untested xD and I have a shit load of money with which to buy the steroids.

Im still here X.....i just been swamped at work and to tell you the truth with all these "changes" amoung the staff I have been doing more reading than posting....to see what kinda insight and new leadership in terms of mods that we have.......

**** fightline and Plazz and MJB23, and MLS and whoever the hell else went over there.....I hated the way they ran this forum and the O.G's like coppershark and TB would shit if they saw the way thier baby was bein run.......

Well I know they always say practice makes perfect but in this case its really true.

In psychology we were talking about the brain this last semester. The teacher showed us scientific studies where the brains of people actually 'rewire' and are able to send out nerve impulses much faster on a task if you do that task a lot. So its proven that the more you do something, you will see definate gains over time from that repetition.

As for me I used to have decent hand speed from my Wing Chun training and practicing on the Muk Yan Jong (wooden man post) but since I have been doing Muay Thai lately and focusing more on kicks and elbows, my hand speed has gone down.

A large part of it is technique. Making sure that you're turning your hips over quickly as well as using your core muscles to turn your shoulders at the same time, ect. A short step and turn of the hips can turn a slow, weak jab into a lightning quick stunning one. Also, try to focus on punching fast, not hard. Keep your muscles loose and just snap your punches out. The rest is just muscle memory. Smooth is fast, fast is strong, strong is powerful. And the more times you punch (with proper technique, duh), the smoother your punches will get and better they'll flow.

As for exercises - plyometrics and heavy weight training.

But honestly, technique is 90% of handspeed. Lots and lots of shadowboxing. Hitting the double end bag is good too.

Basically what they said......practice and repetition.......think back to the first time you jerked off....it might have been different than now days perhaps awkward even but now your a seasoned vet im sure........its the same thing for us all...practice makes perfect
