Well, for what you want you aren't going to be cutting weight, you'd be going on a diet and stepping up cardio and all that stuff. You have to ask yourself if 15 lbs. makes that much of a difference to you for the sprint. I'm not sure how much the 15 lbs. would affect your sprint time but you have to weigh the costs/benefits (I'm an economics major, we do this all the time and my professors always tell us to use this in real life when making decisions too). For some it can be very hard to lose weight and can put people in a stressed mood, which isn't healthy mentally. Do you think the seconds difference in sprint time will make you feel justified in losing the weight (when you don't really need to otherwise it seems)?

Honestly, this is what I'd suggest: do some plyometrics (for explosiveness) and continue weight training and cardio (including the Beep Test/Shuttle Run) while watching your diet. If you lose weight, great, if not, okay, but you'd be training already for what you want and your body will respond.

Cut about 500 calories a day out of your diet you will lose about 1.5 pounds of real weight not water weight or muscle a week. i wrestled for twelve years and in college i was working out i had to eat 3000 calories a day just to maintian my 160 weight. i was only eating about 1000 a day thats how i was able to cut to 142 every week. lots of water and good carbs to give you energy to burn

you just aren't conditioned. Working on the sprints will help that. Another thing you can do while on the treadmill is doing a slower speed for 1 or 2 minutes and then a real fast speed for 1 or 2 minutes and then back to the slower speed. Either way, you just need to get into better cardio shape if that is happening to you.

well as someone who tried out for the police academy a few months ago for the Nashville Airport Police department I got some advice...

Most police departments are more concerned about your mental status and put more emphisis on the actual written test.. In alot of places a decent showing on the physical is all that is needded as long as you pass the written... For me it went like this..

On the physical portion of the exam I did pretty good top two or 3 of every physical test except the mile and a half run... I was like 5th out of 12 taking the test. there were people who beat me onthe physical stuff over all but failed the written.. they did not get to go onto the interview portion of the qualifications...
Over all it was a pretty tough test. partly cause I was not really ready for the physical side.. I had not really been working out in almost 1.5 years at that point.. had a new baby in the house not getting much sleep and all plus man it was brutally hot that day... but just learn from the test if you do not get selected the first time I was in a situation where 12 people were trying out for only two positions. I came in 3rd.. Oh well but mind you this was for an airport police department not a city or twon.. they usually take more people the airport is very selective about who they take.. they wanted me to try out again in 6 month I have about 2 to go not sure if I am gonna do it depends on how things are going come then..

I heard physical and written is easy... but here in toronto, O.P.P, they give u a hard time when it comes to hour and a half interview and video session where you basically solve situations without moving ur hands and ur body - basically you sit on a chair and right down what you would have done. Im scared shitless.. police is like a dream job for me

yea the interview is usually the hardest part that is what tripped me up... and granted... every department is a bit different so your experience can be alot different from mine.. the reason most do not stress the physical portion of the test is that is what the police academy is for.. .

it was odd questions.. for me it would have been a series of two interviews.. a general one then the one With the Airport police department staff.. The police department people wanted me I had already been talking to them.. the other group they asked all kinds of questions that had nothing to do with law enforcement it threw me off which is why I did not do so good I was on the list to be hired... just 3rd on the list.. Funny thing is.. they took the only girl who tried out.. (my test and physical scores were higher, she only beat me on the run, she used be be a long distance runner) and they took a guy who was already working at the airport, THough I do felt he deserved one of the positions..

as for the questions.. they were to get an idea of your peronality andthings like that.. they asked about past experiences.. and other such things.. really no way to prepare for it...
