A question on general training.

I have a quick question to answer an argument I am having with a friend. When training with weights (we are talking generally here, nothing specific). Which would be more sufficient to gain stength, power, and stamina in the long run.

5 sets of 20 reps
or
1 set of 100 reps

I know it's a very unspecific question but could you please tell me your opinions on this, and reasons?

Thanks

1 set of 100 will be more for stamina than 5 sets of 20, but generally speaking 1-6 reps = strength, 7-12 = hypertropy, and 13+ = stamina.

5 sets of 20 reps would be a more effective workout overall. I have no idea if that helps. as far as the strength/power parts thats just way too many reps for that lol

rofl only an idiot would do 1 set of 100.

You want to work in intervals. Like wukkad said, 13+ reps = stamina, however, 1 set of 100 is not as effective as 5 sets of 20 because you will get conditioned and increase lung capacity from this. The less reps the more intense the exercise should be. If you are going all out on those 20 reps 5 times it is much more beneficial than doing one set of 100 reps where you tend to pace yourself through the exercise.
