Neck Strained after getting Guillotined

I had my first sparring session in real wrestling/submission training yesterday.

I was not prepared for this, even though I am in fairly ok shape, and I have pretty good natural balance, flexability and hip strength.

but the last time I did wrestling was in high school.
Now I am 25,
But because I scraped my elbow a few days b4, the coach taped my right elbow up, and made my whole right arm able to fully flex
I went for a double leg takedown against another fairly new guy, but he went for the guillotine which I could have defended with my right arm if my right elbow wasnt all taped up.

But he wasnt very skilled at the choke, so the choke was loose, however I was new, and took me 20 secs or more to get out of it.
at the time it didnt hurt at all.

But after like 10 mins, the back of my neck felt so strained that I barely can move it.
I put some pain killer cream on it right after, made it feel better. After I got home, I put a heat pack on the back of my neck the whole night.
Today the neck still feel strained as hell.

I dont think anything is broken, but I wonder how can I be sure, and about how many days will it take for me to recover.
And should I stop sparring in wrestling until I can strengthen my neck, or just be careful next time?

elitemmagoer has a little shameless behaviour in the past
rest it up. ice for 20 minutes, then heat for 20 minutes. worked for when my back got injured.

yea be careful next time. remember to stay loose. i love it when guys attempt a guillotine on me, im very hard to choke. I'd say 95% of the times ive tapped it was to a non-choke submission. bring your outter arm over, shoulder to their face, spread their legs like a whore and wha-lah. let em burn out their arms and guess who ends up on top? lets just say its the guy who is probably going to win... me

hi, what do u mean by "bring your outter arm over, shoulder to their face, spread their legs like a whore and wha-lah."

the coach basically told me to use my left arm to press down on his leg.
Is that what you mean?

Also some people like Jake Shield just give their neck up in a takedown attempt.
And never get choked out.
Do they just have really strong neck or they have good positioning/technique.

Were you in full guard or half???? What he means by bring your outer arm around is ........Say he is choking you with his right arm you bring your right arm behind his head and press your sholder against his neck......Then you work the leg just be careful because you wont hve your left arm to bridge with while doing that...

Oh and as far as the pain yeah that comes with the game my friend....Try stretching a little better and doing some exercises before rolling that will help....but as far as the pain now????ice and heat are your friends

As far as shields and those wrasslers go....if you notice they change levels first then shoot with their head up.....not bent at the waste

Shields is not just giving his neck up by any stretch of the imagination. He keeps his eyes up and back strong. If you wrestled I would imagine you know how to properly do a double leg. You have to look up if you d o that a beginner is never going to be able to finish a guillotine because they won't be able to just lock their hands.

Sounds like you don't get out properly and strained your neck pulling your head out.
