How long is it ok to stop working out?

I hurt my back the other day (friday) twisting funny when i was lifting something so I have been on pain medicine from the doctor and havent tried to lift anything for a few days. Usually I would work out today but im worried i will tear something or hurt something and not know it cause the pain medicine.

How long can I wait before I start losing strength and size? Should I try to lift anyway while im on the pain pills?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I wouldn't worry about your strength "wearing out" because that shouldn't be a factor in you going back to work out, it should be when you feel you can lift again without hurting yourself. When you feel that you can safetly lift, then go back and gain the strength you may have lost.

you should take time to rest. you won't loose much strenght if you take a week off. plus if you lift you could hurt yourself bad and be injured for a while.
