Kazuo Misaki vs. Frank Trigg
In his first bout as the PRIDE Welterweight Grand Prix Champion, Kazuo Misaki will take on Frank Trigg in a match that all mixed martial arts fans are sure to enjoy. Misaki made his name known around the world in his miraculous comeback win in the Welterweight Grand Prix, but how will he fair when he's not fighting on his home turf?
Frank Trigg is fighter on the worldwide level and a name that all mixed martial arts fans recognize. Relying on his wrestling backbone that he perfected at the University of Oklahoma, Trigg has mainly been active in the UFC. However, this will not be his first PRIDE fight. Trigg fought, and won over, Fabiano Iha in PRIDE 8 in November 1999. Trigg also fought in a SHOOTO match against Hayato "Mach" Sakurai that is now legend. Since his debut in October 1997, Trigg has amassed a record of 14 wins and 5 losses. Although Trigg uses his wrestling and punching skills to effectively ground-and-pound, his standing striking is also a force to be reckoned with. In his latest fight, Trigg beat Jason "Mayhem" Miller on December 1, 2006 by TKO in the 2nd round.
While Misaki also has a lot of momentum behind him now, Trigg is a popular fighter in Las Vegas and will likely have the audience behind him as he fights on the home filed. Trigg's presence in this event is dangerous for Misaki, as he will no doubt be looking for any opportunity to destroy the Champion and establish a position for himself in PRIDE.
