Zune Questions

OK, I have a few questions about Zune. I won one at our work golf outting this weekend and I really enjoy what it has to offer, but I'm not sure that I understand exactly what it's capable of.

1) What is the Social part of Zune?

2) Does the Social aspect of this media player allow others to see what you have on your player? And if it does, can they listen to your music? Watch your videos?

3) I seems to have issues with getting some of my videos to play on the Zune even though they will play with my Windows Media Player, is this common or am I doing something wrong?

4) The Zune I won is just a 4GB, is it worth going and buying a 120GB Zune or is it better to just have a free one, and come to grips that it isn't going to hold everything I want?

5) Will the Zune work as well in the Sync System that my 2008 Edge has? I know that the Sync is powered by MircoSoft, but I don't know if they mesh well.

6) Does anyone have one? And if you do, how do you rate it after using it for a while???

I do have an 80GB iPod, but I really like the functions that the Zune has better.

Does anyone have one? And if you do, how do you rate it after using it for a while???

The Social Part of the zune software is you can add friends and see what they're listening to, what they're watching and how much so. you can also set up a myspace esque profile. The zune hardware however, you can send people files (pictures and music). The music they can play for 3 days or 3 times and they have to buy it afterwards. They cant see what you're listening to or watching though.

What's wrong is that your WMP can play anything your PC has the codec (code required to decode the video)for (IE avi, mpeg, et all). Your Zune however, will only play WMV files and the software needs to convert them or you need 3rd party software to do so.

I love mine and have never had problems with it. I've had three ipoops that have all turned to crap after about a year. I've had my zune since release. I rate it 10/10. I love mine

This is mostly acurate but they got rid of the 3 day part you can now keep songs people send you forever but only listen to them 3 times. (Or plug your zune in to your computer and go into your music section and change the data of the song from MP3 to Podcast and then you can keep it forever allthough its stored in your podcast section of the zune)

Yes Zune works wonderfully with Sync as I have used my Zune 30 and my Zune 8 with it and it meshes perfectly.

And the zune will also support MP4 videos aswell as WMVs so any video converting website will allow you to make the conversion rather easily.

Also youll notice that asmuch as APPLE is touting there "NEW" genious feature that it has been part of the Zune software since day 1 and actually works smoother. The zune software is nice and reliable especially compared to the new Itunes and instead of looking like a spreadsheet has a nice flow to it and is quite pleasing to the eyes.

The social part of the zune also lets you send podcasts so technically any video you label as a podcast can be sent wirelesly and kept permenantly. Mcdonalds now has free wifi specificly for zunes and yeah. I love my zune and after 5 versions of apples shit pods breaking on me ive found love with my Zunes and cannot wait to upgrade to the Zune 120.

I like my 8 but its jsut to small and the 30 is a bit bulky.

Word of caution when it comes to a Zune, be careful of static electricity. I read about people frying there Zune because of static but thought that they were blowing things out of proportion. Well, it happened to me.

For some reason, I have alot of static electricity in my office. I reached over to change a song, I heard a pop and my Zune froze for good. Good thing I had bought the warranty at Best Buy. I returned it the next day and bought an iPod. I have been having my iPod for months now without incident.

That makes absolutely no sense not to mention ive never heard of it. The inside of an ipod and zune are the same except the zune has a larger screen and slightly different scroll wheeel. (click wheel if you have a first generation)

The large ones consist of the GPU and CPU aswell as a large hard drive unless you bought aflash ersion. The harddrive in the 30 80 and 120 gig zunes are the exact same hard drives used in Ipods. (YEs ive disected mine to upgrade my zune 30's hard drive)

Im not going to say that static electricity is good for your zune but its no better for you ipod either. The only problem ive ever had with my zune is one time I dropped it and it erased my hard drive and i had to sync all my contents back to it again which was about a 15 minute long venture and hardly anything to worry about.

Do a google search. Tons of people are complaining about Zune's due to static electricity. Also, doesnt a Zune have a miniature hard drive while a iPod uses flash memory?

Emericanaddict 10-28-2008 04:21 AM

No Large zunes and large ipods both use the exact same hard drive
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...i/IMG_5621.jpg
which is the same as the zunes
http://www.zunemods.net/article_pics/80gbhdd/step10.jpg
The smaller Ipods which come in 8 gigs and 16 gig flavors if you will do indeed use flash memory just the same as small zunes that range rom 4 gigs 8 gigs and 16 gigs aswell.
The insides of a zune and ipod are virtually identical. They both have the same things on the inside despite the zune having much better software and screen. THe ipod also oviusly has a different type of scroll wheel and does support a few different codecs but thats simply due to the programming of the software. NOTHING to do with the hardware. If static electricity is bad for one mother board i can gaurentee you its bad for another.

Possibly this is a symptom affecting older zunes which did not have metallic casings like the ippods and have a rubbery plastic backing but the new zunes (only the Z30 had the plastic backing) all have the same type of metal backing as an ipod but its a nice texture so it doesnt scratch to high hell in 2 days and can support custom engravings of not only names but pictures.

With all the zune hate by mac users im not going to belive any negativity that is jsut a rumour on the interwebz especially since I have 3 zunes myself and have had no problems like this other than when i dropped my zune 30 and the hard drive erased.
