Help!!

So as of right now I have my laptop connected to a desktop monitor because my laptop screen doesn't work, and I don't have money to fix it right now.

The problem is that it's my brother's monitor and I'm going back to school this Sunday and I can't take it with me..soo, I recently bought an rca cable to try and connect my laptop to my tv. But it doesn't seem to work.

I told someone about it, and they said I might have to download some drivers so it could work...but I don't know anything about that. I was hoping someone could help me out..it will be greatly appreciated, and rewarded :thumb02:

If it helps:
I have windows vista basic 32-bit
mobile intel r 945gm express chipset family graphics card

Eh, I dont believe you need drivers for this. However, I think once the cable is connected to your laptop and TV, you need to go to your display options and enable it/set it as your primary display device. Unfortunately, I don't think you can do this when the TV/device isn't connected.. so I don't know if there's a solution for you... because obviously if you have no screen you can't see what you are doing to enable the TV.

One idea I can think of.. if you have another computer available to you at school. I go to logmein.com and set up an account there.. install the software on your laptop and enable it. Once you get to school, set your laptop up to your TV and go to the other computer.. login to logmein (its a remote desktop program). Now you can use your laptop from another computer and now you can enable your TV as the primary display device. This seems like alot of work though, there might be an easier solution.. if I think of anything I will post it here.

Good luck.

Well, the thing is that I actually can see some of the screen if its under intense light, and when I do go to the display settings, theres no option for the tv. Theres only an option for the moniter I currently have it connected to.

And for the other options, it looks like it could work, I'm gonna try it when I have time.

Is there an option for the TV when you have the TV connected? The TV will only show up when its connected.

Yea, I have it connected but it doesn't show up at all. Only the monitor.

Usually your TV needs to be adaptable to PC's to be able to show the image. I tried doing the same with my TV/Laptop so I could stream events on big screen, but my TV wasn't adaptable. But I'm still looking into it.

Never heard of this.. this could be it tho.. I would assume if your TV had the ports it should work.. your laptop should send the output out in the standard way for any device that has those inputs to be able to read it.

Anyways, I thought of something else DP.
When you are trying to get it to work on your TV, you said you already had another monitor plugged into your laptop?

Unplug that monitor, and try the TV.. try to use the broken screen to go to your display options... and see if it has another screen there thats available for attaching. Its possible that your laptop never displayed it before, because you already had dual devices set up for your display.

Didn't mean to double post..but just wanted to say that I tried the wire without the monitor attached and still nothing. But I think it might be cuz I have windows vista basic.

I tried the wire on my gf's laptop and it worked immediately, no problem, and she has Vista premium..or whatever NOT basic is...maybe I need an update or something...? :dunno:
