Hey guys, i recently had an issue with my laptop, which resulted in a SMART message as seen in the picture. Basically everytime i get to the windows page with the green icon running accross the bottom of the screen it freezes..

So today i bought a new hard drive for my laptop and put it in and tried to boot using the CD, but i get the following image and then it gets stuck on the same screen as before... I really dont know what to do Any advice?

Replaced hard drive with a new one and booted using the operating system reinstallation dvd and got this screen


Once that screen was complete, it goes back to this screen and again freezes after around 10 seconds

i take the laptop apart and look at the condition of the hardware and wires.

You probably have a bad driver somewhere. Have you tried just reloading Windows again? Sometimes reseating the hard drive will do it. Also, if you have more than 1 memory chip, and 1 of them is bad, it could cause it to freeze as well. Try removing each chip and see if the system still freezes or not.

i find it harder to track down a specific problem and more time consuming, then to wipe the drive and do a clean install of Windows.

Windows 7 comes with a built-in 'Back Up' feature that allows for a complete System Image Backup or System Image Backup with Data.. and you can even set it up for automatic backups.. it will also allow you to create a Repair Disc incase you can't access Windows.

Before you do a clean install try this:

1. Pop in your old HD, and press 'Del', as soon as your computer begins to boot:
- Windows 7: select 'Repair'
- other OS: pop in the Windows CD, let it load, select 'Repair'.
