They suck all the time. I feel like a big ass douche. I was super excited for the No-Gi BJJ class that I talked about earlier, and showed up ready to go, only to find out that it was a KIDS BJJ class. (facepalm). Trying to get my gym to let me train with the fight team.

Anyhow. Cardio only today as I am on duty. 20 min on the treadmill. 1:30 running at 6.0 @ 1% grade, alternating with 1:30 walking 3.5 mph @ 10% grade. Then I did 3 sets of this. 1 min burpees, followed by 1 min of skaters, followed by 1 min of jab/cross combo with 5 pound dumbells. Resting 1 min in between. THAT sucked ass.

Tomorrow is regular MMA class after my son does his sparring.

So I was on duty for two days this weekend and was only able to do some cardio. Nothing fancy, but something. I am psyched because I am able to start training with my gyms fight team next week. Gained 2 pounds this weekend, and dont know why. I had a very small piece of B-day cake, and ate clean the other meals. So I am up to 232 and need to get to at least 224 by Oct. 6th. I am going to shoot for 218ish.

But man I am whooped...

I wouldn't worry about 2 lbs but then again I'm not training for a tourney either. 2-3 lbs is a good bowel movement

Keep up the good work.

You need to be rolling at least two minutes longer than your actual rounds will be. Double if you're a blue belt and add two more minutes for each belt after that. Trust me training for the time you'll be competing is a mistake, if its your first tourney you'll be gassed after a minute of grip fighting just because of your nerves.

Are you going to the NAGA in west Florida in early October or the one in Hawaii at the end of the month?

My one note, you seem to be stressing quite a bit about things like your weight. If you want to lose weight to be in shape great, if its because you want to be on the bigger end of a weight division you need to forget it. Your technique and skill will be worth anything you keep on because you spent time drilling and not running.

Best of luck with the pro team, be ready to see a whole new rpm for training. Beat of luck at the tourney, hopefully it goes better for you than my first one did.

Yes, its the one in Florida but its not on the west coast, its on the east side. And I believe that its one 4 min round. So I thinking that if I do 6 min ones in training, I should be ok. How did your first one go? Good experience? PM me if you want.

So I came across something that is a bit of a concern. I was planning on doing the NAGA Florida on October 6th with the thought that I can only drop 5-6 pounds and hit the 224 limit. However, when I looked further, I noticed that because I was going to do the Director's novice (over 40 with < 6 months experience) class, there was only under 199 or over 200 for me. I can do the open class with the weight class that I was shooting for. I then came across another tourney, Grapplers Quest on November 12th. This one has a weight class in the open division for beginners (< 9 months experience) 200-209.

I am thinking that doing the one in November, being that its another month of training under my belt, another month to cut weight slower, and not so much of a weight cut, would be a good thing. PLUS, I can attend the one in October since I have never even seen a submission tournament let alone competed in one.

Thoughts?

That sounds like a good idea. Give you a chance to get more acclimated to the sport and how the tournaments work

I got crushed 12-0 in my first fight and then performed better in the 3rd place bracket but still got beat by a few points. Was worth is for sure though, made me such a better grappler. I got too concerned with things that didn't matter in the end. Things like weight and match ups etc. I completely changed my pre-tourney prep after that and have only lost three times since then, once in the finals, when I was way too sick to be competing and when I first moved up to the advanced division and just wasn't ready for the drastic leap in competition.

Me and a few friends are planning on being in Florida for a few days, I think like the 5th to the 9th. We might shoot over and compete if time allows it.

Edit: Seriously FOUR MINUTE ROUNDS!! That's no time at all, that's just asking for the first guy that scores a take down to win. ******* IBJJF rules.

Diet back on track and feel good. Excellent cardio workout at the station yesterday.

Did 3 rounds of...

10 burpees (with pushup)
10 AB wheel to full extension
10 Sledgehammer on the tire (each side)
10 tire flips
200(ish) run
Plank to fail (maybe a min or so)

Then I jab/crossed and near maximum effort for 5 1 min rounds. 30 seconds with 5 pound dumbells and 30 seconds without, 1 min rest in between.

Holy shit was I spent. Class tonight. Fight team training starts Monday. A few guys on the team are fighting tomorrow so the gym is closed for that.
