That's because your strength coach is smart and you're hardcore

lol I don't want to thread jack the OP but don't think I am that hardcore yet! I know I work my ass off but know I could still bring my workouts to a whole new level but don't want to kill myself just yet.

A deadlift is a deadlift, for my purposes.

I don't have any coaches, just various instructors and a few trainers who will help me here and there.

And it doesn't matter what I put in a shake, it never fills me up for more than a couple hours, ever. I have to eat meat and vegetables, or similar.

What you are doing is awesome and everyone's body is different in sometimes vast and extreme ways in terms of nutrition and what exercises work the best.

In the end though I have to admit I have never seen gains like I do now in strength and explosive energy since I have started training with coaches for strength and endurance. This coupled with my martial arts instructors has been absolutely amazing in every possible way.

Mon 6-07: 3.5 mile run around 12:30, then kickboxing at 6 (jump rope, planks, v-ups, lots and lots of pad work) then point sparring. Some guy's kneecap connected with my elbow and it hurts lots and lots. Trying to see if I can not drink for more than 1 night at a time (OK, I had some of somebody's whiskey and iced tea. Like, 2 sips) It's hard.
Tue: Didn't do anything. I overdid it yesterday on not enough sleep and am really tired today.
Wed: Karate: a lot of stretching, kicking drills, then 20 min of pump kick drills up and down the floor. I hate pump/slide kicks, they remind me of everything that makes people hate on karate, but they're a good workout and do make my legs stronger.
MMA: shadowbox combinations up and down the floor. This is one of my favorite drills that we hardly ever do. Then light live standup where I led with my face a few times, LMAO. Then mount escapes and sweeps which were fun as shit. I had a partner who I used to think was kind of a bitch but she was pretty cool.
Thur: 3 mile run, judo was the usual stretch/breakfall/forward roll warmup, then we had to vault over stacked kick shields into our forward roll, then we learned the fake right seioi nage going to a left seioi nage, then randori. I am supposed to test for rank next month, if I'm understanding it correctly. It looks like I haven't had more than 1/2 a drink in 5 days. I think it's going to get easier.
Fri: Last night I had my first whole drink (as in 1 shot with a mixer) in 4 or 5 days. I had a root canal this AM and my face hurt, so I walked my dog about 2 miles, and will walk him another mile tonight. We didn't do much in Shotokan apart from kata, self-defense and some floor drills. I wish that class would speed up a little, we hardly ever work cardio in there. If I take a martial arts class and don't have to shower when I get home, that's a fail IMO.

Here be my food log for today. You will notice there are several things that need to be tweaked and/or eliminated. It's a work in progress at best.

breakfast: 6 crackers, 1T Nutella (breakfast of warrior princesses), 1/2 bialy

lunch: about 4 oz almost-raw tuna, 1/3 c rice, 1/4 c seaweed salad, wasabi and pickled ginger om nom nom, 1 cappucino

about 12 pistachios and more coffee before I went off to karate/MMA

1 c blueberries with 1/2 c greek yogurt, 3 packets of splenda

turkey bologna sandwich on high fiber bread, 1 c popcorn

1/2 c cereal

5 small pieces of leftover waffle fries

4 pcs chocolate

A small vodka. Stressing b/c I have a root canal scheduled in the morning.

I know my diet is in dire need of improvement. I'm working on it.

Wed 6-23: After a week and a half off, I returned to the dojo today. Karate was the typical stretching/kick drill warmup, then triple slide kick drills.
Thur: Judo; there was a new person so we did a bunch of basics, uchukomi, but then in randori we drilled seioi nage with a sutemewaza counter, which was great.

Thank you. I will continue karate, however for the next month or so, my primary focus is going to be working toward my judo yellow belt, and I'd like to start running some more.

I think I may need a few of those 5 shot venti americanos.

lol they work!

EDIT: Just make sure you eat BEFORE drinking coffee or an espresso drink... caffeine is also an appetite suppressant
