Mon 7-04: rested
Tue: 7-04 rested. I haven't had much desire to eat the past couple of days, I hope that'll resolve once I get back on track working out. I am down in the dumps big time.
Wed: rested.
Thur: Judo tonight. I may take a short run early this afternoon. EDIT: 3 mile run will hopefully be a good warmup for judo. I don't do all that great in the heat, and I only wear a singleweave. It isn't that I mind sweating, I don't mind a bit, I just get kind of nauseated if I'm working hard and it's hot.
Fri: rested
Sat: 1/2 hour of judo due to a soccer game I had to be at, or be a bad mom.
Sun: rested

Mon: Super fun gi grappling
Tue: 3.5 mile run
Wed: AM traditional karate class, silly kicks and all. It was me, another mom, and her two kids. I think another mom might show up next week. 4 of her 5 kids go to our gym, so the class may grow exponentially. I'm back at the top of the page again, bitches!
Thur: AM 3 mile run, PM judo. I am not a visual learner, so watching a technique broken down and demonstrated doesn't work for me. I have to do it.
Fri: rested
Sat: About half of a judo class due to soccer. I love my girl partner! She has wonderful control, especially for a beginner, and is very strong. We went over hiza guruma, uki otoshi, ashi guruma, and started on the winding throws with soto makikomi. I am very, very tired of classes that are all uchikomi except for 15 min of randori or butsugari gaiko at the end, however.
Sun: 4 mile run

I'm back at the top of the page, bitches!!
Mon 7-18: floor bag drills with various combinations of knee on belly, S mount, technical mount, full mount etc., then some half guard passes. I would like to get more than 3-4 runs in this week, due to the pace at which my other sports are taught. I'm having some patience issues with my judo club (hardly any randori, an awful lot of watching and very little doing) and I disrespected my sensei, to make a long story short. He runs a VERY informal mat, all the time, and me and 4 other people are supposed to belt test next month, so if he's going to kick me out of a few classes, or the program (which I don't think he can do b/c it's not his gym) he'll just screw my uke over, IMO. I have never known him to do this before. Never mind that I don't feel ready to belt test exactly because I have been made to watch the techniques over and over with very limited opportunity to do them myself. Shadow techniques and wall sensei do not work for me so far.
Tue: 4 mile run, fueled by 3 bites of cake, lukewarm coffee and almond milk. It sounds disgusting, but it did what I needed it to do.
Wed: 4 mile run
Thur: 3 mile run. Judo at 6. I'm supposed to talk to my teacher before class. If I get in trouble, and my sensei decides to be a super strict sensei, then half the guys in class will be doing 1000s of pushups for months of making moronic comments out of turn.

EDIT: I kind of got in trouble, but my sensei has great patience and understands that I'm the only mommy in the class, and that I need all the time I can get on the mat. I get that judo is social, but I told him I didn't get why it's important to be on time when class always starts 15 min late due to socializing. I'm not allowed to be pissed off at my family and throw my gi jacket any more. I said I'd had enough of dumbass chatter when I'm trying to listen to instruction. While I was on the mat for butsugari gaiko, he told the chatterer to be quiet, and it made my day.

Fri:rested
Sat: Incredibly awesome judo practice with a ton of randori and throwing the line. Loved it, love my tough little girl uke, love figuring out which techniques I'm going to test with in 4-6 weeks or so. Any day I leave the dojo with a sweaty nasty gi in my gym bag is a good day.

Back at the top of the page muahahahaaa!!

Mon: Karate despite something of a hangover. Kick drills, etc. Some of our best friends are in town, visiting from China, where they have lived for the past few years and will live for one more year before hopefully coming back to the U.S.
tue: Awesome standup class, all pad work and live drills. It was so great to throw hands and try to make the pad make that THWACK that tells me I got a solid strike.
Wed: Karate, kind of lame in the second half because it was boring self-defense.
Thur: 3 mile run. iPod crapped out before the last mile, so I had to listen to songs in my head. Judo was great, with the exception of booooaring nage no kata.

EDIT: My uke wants to test for our judo green belts in two weeks. I can probably be ready, but I'm not the most tranquil judoka under testing conditions. Also, all the tests are at 8:00 AM for some reason.

Fri: 2.5 mile run
Sat: A lot of boring uchikomi, then super awesome butsugari gaiko and randori.

I'm making a separate post in which I will discuss what I want to belt test with. I'm panicking because I know I have the 12 throws required and more, but I want to be good at them. Also it's not clear to me if we're going to be tested on sutemewaza or newaza or not. We rarely drill either.

I'm assuming I have to demonstrate 4 hand techniques, 4 hip techniques, and 4 foot sweeps. I have the foot sweeps down, but as always, timing is an issue. I'm not good at hand techniques but I'll prob. test with morote seioi nage, uki otoshi (because it's super f*cking easy), tae otoshi (needs work big time but I can do it) and one other that I haven't decided on yet.

For hip throws I'll prob. do koshi guruma, uchimata, hanae goshi and harae goshi. I can't remember at all if I tested for orange belt with harae goshi. I may have to find another hip throw.

Foot sweeps will be o uchi/ko uchi gari, because we've been drilling that obsessively, ashi guruma and hiza guruma, which I love for some reason.

I will now hurl from teh nervuz.

EDIT: My sensei has informed the club that he will no longer be testing in tandem, and everybody has to test individually with whichever uke they can coordinate scheduling with. He says that testing that way was faster, but made it a lot harder for him and the other advanced belts who were grading to evaluate. I thought it was funny that he didn't mention a policy change like this in class, and I asked him to consider testing me on the 17th of September. My normal uke said he would do it. I also noticed that my sensei made sure to add the caveat of "there may be exceptions and I will decide when those exceptions apply."

Since I have left behind the erroneous assumption that training is approached in a logical and egalitarian manner, I don't get so uptight about these things. I'm just concentrating on my own efforts.

Mon 8-01: I showed up for BJJ and nobody was there. My karate sensei/gym owner takes this class, and he was on his way back from a tournament in Georgia, so he probably canceled it without telling anybody but the instructor, which is not unusual. 15 min stepmill, 3 mile run. I'm glad I made use of the gym time, but I really wanted to gi grapple. I look forward to it so much every week. Sad face.
Tue: Brief pad work with an ex-NFL BJJ player who was nice enough to hold the pads and give me combos for about 10 minutes, then 2 mile run. I had a terrible migraine today and I'm going to have to ice both my Achilles later.
Wed: rested
Thur: 3 mile AM run, then judo, which was super awesome. My sensei gave us the demanding workout we'd had a frank discussion (I cried, but not on the mat)about 2 weeks prior. I got sick as shit of so much uchikomi and talking and 15 min left for randori at the end. That's ridiculous IMO.
Fri: 3 mile run
Sat: Judo, a lot like Thur, then 2 mile run.
Sun: rested. I'm supposed to test for green belt next Saturday, but my uke hasn't been around as much as I'd like and wants to practice Monday evening at the dojo, which is unrealistic b/c it's usually very crowded then, with no room to put mats down.

Mon 8-08: 3 mile run.
Tue: Half of a pad work class, probably only 7-8 combinations, then had to take somebody to work, then went back and ran 2.5 miles. My uke is belt testing this Saturday and he'll get promoted before me. I shouldn't care, because that feels like belt chasing. However, we were both under the assumption that we would be testing together, as was my sensei's method for the past few years. Refer to my belt testing post above.
Wed: BJJ. A bunch of incredibly fun transitional drills. I love grip fighting.
Thur: Bag drills, 2.5 mile run. Judo at 6. I'm hoping to test for my green belt on September 17. EDIT: Judo was a lot, lot lot of dynamic 3 uchikomi/throw drills, then renwakuwaza, then butsugari gaiko, then randori. My ideal class.
Fri: rested
Sat: 3.5 mile run, then drank way too much that night, but my husband danced and didn't complain too much about having to wear a tie (which he wore for about 10 min after we got there) so it was worth it. I'd like to get a 15-mile week in on top of BJJ and judo and the occasional karate class. In about 3 weeks I will likely be substitute teaching 3-5 days a week again, but I'm determined to maintain the pace that I have been, and step it up.

Bolded and at the top of the screen again, bitches!!
Mon 8-15: Customary front snake, bridge etc. warmup drills, then far side armbar drills, guard passes, and a great reversal that we called the butt floss, because we're classy like that. Then 30 min stepmill and 10 min bike, because my quads kind of hurt after lots of dancing Sat. night.
Tue: 3 mile run. It took awhile to get warmed up. That's what happens when I get back on the wagon, I suppose. My running mojo shall return; it always does; and I'll be 5-milin' again soon.
Wed: 40 min stepmill, 10 min bike. Sweaty cardio, no matter how hard-worklike it feels, seems like a fail if it isn't running.
Thur: Judo, a seioi nage fest (just ippon seioi nage, which I don't like and I'm not good at ) with a lot of uchikomi and not enough randori and a little butsugari gaiko.
Fri: Ran, I forgot how far
Sat: Judo, a lot like Thur. but even less cardio
Sun: rested

Mon 8-22: 3.5 mile run, 15 min. bike, then ate too much and had a drink that night. *facepalm*
Tue: 4 mile run, 15 min. bike
Wed: 2 mile run, 20 min stepmill, 10 min bike. It felt like such a fail because I'd like to be 4- or 5- miling on a regular basis. I want to test for green belt in both arts this fall/winter and I want my conditioning to be great.
Thur: 4 mile run. I reconfigured my day because I thought I was going to miss judo this evening to go see my older daughter play and sing. I should have seen the last minute change of plans coming; I don't think we're going now. Additionally, I haven't heard a thing from my judo sensei re: whether or not I'm testing next month. I'm not sure if this is some thing where I'm supposed to get rageface and Learn a Lesson in Patience if he promotes my uke before me. My uke set up his test thinking that we would test together, as we did for the last two belts. It wasn't till I asked the instructor essentially WTF was going on that he sent an email out to everybody in the club saying that he was no longer testing students in tandem, as he felt it shortchanged the student and made it harder for him and whatever higher belt was helping him to evaluate the results. I still feel that was something that could have been brought to everyone's attention much sooner, but I already said I don't get uptight about that kind of thing anymore, as the hierarchichal nature of training is becoming more clear to me.
Fri: rested
sat: Judo was way more strenuous and demanding, and we did a bunch of new drills. One of the brown belts went to YMCA judo camp in Huguenot, somewhere toward the Hudson Valley region, I think. It looks like some major changes are going to be gradually implemented in the way our program is conducted and taught, and I'm very excited my sensei has listened to this particular black belt candidate. Hopefully the focus of training for higher belts will move away from boooooring nage no kata, also.
Sun: rested

Mon 8-30: I got flower sweep, butterfly sweep, and magic hands choke. I think the arc of my sweeping arm and foot are going to be hard to remember. Butterfly sweep felt like it would be easier to intuit. Magic hands was fairly technical and I wondered if guys yank on each others' waistbands brutally on purpose to crush the other guy's nuts. No cardio apart from dog walk and clearing brush/throwing big branches around. My instructor said I had strong legs. I was so psyched.
Tue: 3 mile run, 15 min bike.
Wed: 3.5 mile run, 15 min bike. I got interrupted halfway through, but it was worthwhile b/c my younger daughter wanted to go for a run with her little friends, so I took her her running shoes.
Thur: AM was BJJ all of a sudden with no prior notification, but I'll take it. We worked a reversal from quarter guard, two sweeps from a turtled opponent's back, and a few other things. After class a blue belt from a program at Mercyhurst in Erie, PA showed us a nice counter to a triangle, which I'll detail later. Judo at 6. I finally got the OK from my sensei to test for green belt Sep. 17. I'm excited and nervous as shit.
Fri: 30 min stepmill, 20 min jump rope with two other women that I know. That was the most fun I've had jumping rope in months.
Didn't work out Sat, Sun or yesterday, and drank. Bad bad bad. I'll get it all back together this week.
