Tue: 3.5 mile run
Wed: 2 mile run, 15 min stepmill, 10 min bike
Thur: Judo; countering drills and a lot of cardio, and a lot of fun.
Fri: 1 hour pad work.
Sat: Judo, same class but shorter, so I got on the stepmill for 20 min and the bike for 15 min afterward. Not as nervous as I was about testing in a week, although I'll probably be a wreck that morning.
Sun: rested.

Mon 9/12 - BJJ was tornado roll/sweep and a couple of reversals from spider guard. My Drysdale affiliate teacher kept canceling classes, and I can't afford to belong to two gyms, so my instructor for the past 2 months or so is a blue belt under Chuck Anzalone of Buffalo BJJ (Carlson Gracie (till he died in 2006)>Ricardo de la Riva>Chuck Anzalone (black belt 2008)>Josh Roth>me. De la Riva is actually coming there Thursday. It's times like this I wish I was the breadwinner and could take off and do this sort of thing, seminars, competition etc. anytime I want. I did something to my neck drilling tornado roll, but what a fun ass technique. I'd love to be able to seamlessly transition from tornado roll/omoplata, or tornado roll/triangle.
Tue: My older daughter wants to come to the gym with me tonight, for the first time in months. I'm so excited. She has my long stride, and an iron will and determination that I can only take partial credit for. EDIT: She didn't go b/c she had lots of homework. I went to the evening kickboxing class, which ended up being mostly bag drills, which I love.
Wed: rested
Thur: No run this AM, and it's making me crazy. I am practicing with my uke before and after judo tonight, which translates to about 3+ hours of judo, so I have to save my legs. Still pretty nervous about testing, but going over the written test and thinking of what I wanted to work on calmed me down a little.
Fri: rested b/c I was paranoid about not being sore for belt test on Sat.
Sat: The test went fine, as far as I can tell. My instructor had to correct my uke twice b/c he was stopping me demonstrating yoko guruma properly. Also, I didn't have the escapes from yokoshihogatame and kamishihogatame, but it was easy enough I also had to demonstrate ippon seioi nage from hidarishizentai and I had to kind of muddle through it because I'd never been taught that. Hopefully I'll find out in the next couple of weeks if I passed or not. Then I did class right afterward, so it was 3 hours of judo again.
Sun: rested, very sore

Mon: BJJ was sweeps using tornado roll and from spider guard again; then 30 min bike.
Tue: 3.2 mile run, 20 min bike
Wed: rested. EDIT: I got antsy and went to karate, which was actually a lot of fun switching stances and different blocks and strikes in combination. I was next to one of my favorite women and we had a great time.
Thur: judo; more avoidance and counter drills. Though we still drill technique, the classes are far more demanding now from a cardio standpoint, which is absolutely fine with me.
Fri: rested
Sat: Got my green belt. Class was all ashiwaza, with a lot of dynamic drills and some butsugari gaiko, but no randori.
Sun: rested

Mon: 30 min stepmill, 20 min. bike. I may go back for karate, not because I feel a great need to train sport karate but because I like the cardio and the women who are usually in the evening classes with me.

I'm very pleased I got my belt, because it shows I've worked hard and made progress; but in a martial art, just as in life, there's always a great deal of room for improvement. I spent all of last night, and all of today so far, in deep thought as a result.
Tue: 2.5 mile run, 20 min. bike. I did go back for karate on Monday and it was kind of lame, but I had one of my favorite ladies as a partner.
Wed: rested
Thur: There's supposed to be open mat judo at 6, but I don't know who's going to show up so I'm going to 5:30 kickboxing. Sometimes they train nogi on Thurs. evenings, but it seems to depend on the instructor's mood or on if anyone is getting ready for a fight. EDIT: Kickboxing was fun as shit.
Fri, Sat, Sun: rested. Trying to rest and treat a pulled hamstring.

This coming week, a gym is opening up that will train chiefly MT and BJJ. I don't know what their fees are yet. I would be training under Kru Mark Shaw (who trained under some guy called Ajarn Chai) and Josh Roth, who just got his purple belt from de la Riva.

I don't think I'll be able to belong to two gyms, unless I get more work, which is very likely. I may need to just become a judo member at my current gym, as I don't really want to give that up. However, I have wanted to train MT/BJJ concurrently for years. I have some more thinking to do, clearly.

Mon 10-05: karate which was boring kick drills and boringer kata. Sometimes I think I only do those classes for the adult female companionship.
Tue: First-ever muay thai class. We did pyramids, Minnesota shuffle, hollowout defense, hip roll drill, teep, knee and round kick/knee drills, clear the hand and hook the head and outside knee, for two hours and it rocked. I can't afford to go to this gym and my current gym. I have to decide which arts I want to train for the time being. I am starting to get more subbing jobs, so if that keeps up I'll go to this gym, b/c there's no way on earth L&M will pay for it if I'm not working.
EDIT: I've put in a fair amount of work at two different gyms in the past week, and along with subbing I've gotten kinda confuzzled as to what I did. I had to take Thur-Tue off due to family being in town.

Tue 10-11: MT was bag work and floor drills, and I tried to wrap my hands wherein you wrap every knuckle, and it was a fail. The Velcro on my hand wraps is going, anyway.
Wed: BJJ, guard breaks from de la Riva guard and a lot of guard passing drills, where everyone was very nice to me and didn't choke me out.
Thur: Judo. Small class, but a lot of 3-uchikomi-and-a-throw drills and butsugarigaiko and randori, so it was great.
Fri: open mat. There were a lot of painful tabata drills which I guess are very beneficial. I hope so b/c they hurt.
Sat: resting. Still trying to figure out if I can retain a judo membership at my current gym while paying $100/mth for MT/BJJ training at the new one. Another downside is that the new place has no treadmills, and I need to run, and am not a good outside runner.
Sun: rested. On rest days I still walk my dog the ordinary 2 miles or so in two walks, otherwise he suddenly goes plumb loco in the house, launches himself off the couch, leaps over things, etc.

Top of the page. You bitches better recognize.
Mon: interval bag drills, jump rope, pad work and other various stations for an hour, then worked more guard passes and how to get back in when you've stood up and somebody is flailing at you upkicking from the ground. I love gi grappling. I love it so much. I bet I'll love it even more when I finally get a proper JJ gi.
Tue: MT. The class had a lot of beginners like me, but we still worked.
Wed: rested
Thur: MT, we worked quite a bit harder. About 16-17 3 min rounds of jump rope, bag drills, partner pad work, shadowboxing. I had to put my shins on because I'm a wuss and was getting an egg on my left instep due to my lethal switch kicks on the bag.
Fri. rested. I worked a fair amount this week, I mean subbing work, and if I can get my sorry ass out of bed in time, I'll go to judo tomorrow.
Sat: Slept through judo. After 5 days of getting up earlier, which signifies some progress, I crashed and slept in Sat AM. No workout today, or tomorrow, except for lengthy dog walks. I guess that counts for a little. I am reconfiguring the coming week because due to volleyball (kids' last game followed by parent-child game where we get our asses handed to us) and school open house I can't do MT with Kru Mark, so I'm opening up a few mornings for MT conditioning and BJJ. I still feel conflicted about going to a gym with no treadmill. Running is still by far my favorite means of conditioning.
Sun: Sonofabitch.

Mon: 3 min rounds of: mat jog, jump rope, GnP on a bag on the ground, standup including clinch work, totaling about 45 minutes, then BJJ, where I learned the Mur shoulder lock. I'm told this probably arises from his fight with Pete Williams, which I didn't know, and another sweep from spider guard. I asked to go over flower sweep next time as I think it's taught to most BJJ beginners, and I've drilled it once and don't remember it. Also worked on swinging my arm around my back so I don't screw up tornado roll quite so badly. I guess I'm a bad mom, but I so don't want to miss MT tomorrow for the volleyball thing.
Tue: went in the AM, instructor was doing some insane interval plyo drill on his laptop so I was the only other one, so I did about 30 min mat jog/jump rope intervals, then we worked some nogi stuff; a kimura/guillotine series and two armbars. I particularly loved the trapping the arm just below the theoretical glove and pushing hard on their head with your other hand to get you in a better position for the armbar.
Wed: AM was various block/counter drills, then some sparring. Thank Saraswathi I wore my mouth guard. I didn't do my party trick of leading with my face, but I dropped my hands a lot and I'm just lucky my partner had good control. PM was the customary guard passes, two reversals from deep half/butt floss, then live rolling. I always learn the most when I roll live. One of my partners was new, about 15 yrs old or so, and he wasn't accustomed to ppl drilling the inside of his leg with their pointy elbow. He was all "OW OW OW" and I said, that's how I break guard, ese! Great class.
Thur: muay thai
Fri: rested
Sat: judo, but a short class because we went out to celebrate our program's first black belt. My instructor got promoted to nidan last year, so now he can promote ppl to black belt.
Sun: rested

Mon: didn't work out like a lazyass
Tue: MT. Pad and bag work.
Wed: BJJ. Nice group of guys. One of the most skilled ones sounds just like Lt. Dangle and is some sort of clergyman; weird.
Thur: more MT. Class was half women, half men, and I loved my girl pad work partner.
Fri: rested
Sat: Judo, a lot of uchikomi and a little randori where I got owned.
Sun: rested

Mon 11-08 : AM 3 mile run, PM karate, cardio drills and bag drills and not the usual drudgery, fortunately.
Tue: MT was the customary mat jog/jump rope/shadowbox warmup, then partner pad work and bag work. The gym owner, who is also the BJJ instructor, just won his first ammy MT match at heavyweight.
Wed: BJJ. Mount escape (push your fists into their gut and bridge and shrimp out hard) and guard passing drills; I also used the butt floss move successfully for the first time in rolling live. The instructor's 7-year-old son busted out laughing when he heard that term. I learned that trying for a collar choke in guard is a terrible idea. This is what comes of virtually no newaza in judo apart from choke drills where nobody is trying to submit you. I should have known this all along, as it's leaving an arm out. My teacher double-armbarred me as I tried to stack, to his great amusement.
Thur: MT, a ton of pad and bag work, like I like it.
Fri: rested
Sat: Judo, maybe 6-8 demanding drills and the rest was standing around talking, mostly because the guy who likes to throw makikomi throws doesn't realize that it's your last throw on your feet.

I should mention that as of the first of Dec. I'll just be a gym member at the dojo up the road, so my daughter and I can run. I won't particularly miss karate, except for some of the people I took classes with, who were great. I will miss judo quite a bit and will try to sneak into class here and there, but the opportunity to train MT with a guy who previously only trained pros or gave private lessons for $50/hr, and BJJ with a student of Chuck Anzalone, who trained and got his black belt under Carlson Gracie and de la Riva, after Carlson died, is too great to pass up.
