wheelbarrows hurt. I did them with a woman 3 inches taller and about 60 lb. heavier than me and I was in pain when it was my turn to carry her legs. I couldn't figure out how to stabilize my lower back when I was doing them, I don't have a back problem. they seem like they're great for strengthening the back but I couldn't say which muscles in particular. Good luck continuing to prepare for your fight next month.

Went to a supplement store promotion, was supposed to be Anderson Silva doing autographs but apparently he couldn't get across the border. Kenny Florian was there instead, which is pretty cool anyways. Got him to autograph my shorts.

Week of rest is over! My left wrist/forearm still have aches. Gonna get a doctors opinion on the forearm after the tournament.
Spent an hour or so just refreshing on everything pretty lightly. It felt like that last minute cram session the night before an exam. We just worked on everything that I know and use. No point trying to learn new things now, it won't internalize overnight.
Tomorrow's tournament I'm competing in a Gi at the 221lb division. I weigh about 211lbs now, with a gi on I'll be around 214-215lbs. Gonna load some creatine mono in tonight and see if I can wake up a few lbs heavier. Going to have to go back to 211lbs the following day to compete in no-gi.
I just realized that my gi isn't going to dry in time for tomorrow....oops
I'll do my best, but going in I don't expect to do well.

First Tourny! Showed up around 9 am but it worked out that my division didn't go until after 3pm. I brought some fruit and gatorade but wasn't prepared to wait that long and probably paid for it when I went.
Got paired up with a guy I've rolled quite a few times from my gym and always gives me a battle. He's shorter than me but filled out well and god damn strong. The wrong guy to have on top of you.
We faced off, got in close, he took me down with a solid slam. Landed in half guard. Regained my guard almost immediately, after a bit of a struggle got a weak kimura and pulled off the sweep. Held mount for awhile with my legs intertwined under him, I was trying to stay relaxed while working for an americana, but his arms were too strong and he knew what I was up to. I don't know exactly what happenned next but he eventually broke out of the mount and I beleive had me in guard. I tried for a weak triangle but it wasn't going to land. He swept my legs to the side for the pass. Then I somehow snuck out of his side control and just had to pass to win or maybe tie. He had solid grips on me with his legs in the way, I was close and the timer cut me off short. I couldn't pass. So he won on points...6-4 I think? I don't remember. Man was I exhausted too, I don't know if it was the lack of food or adrenaline or the intensity, but I nearly fainted afterwards.
Since I lost first round that was it for me. Good experience though, I've got no real pride in this stuff so there was nothing to lose.
Don't know if there was any video taken of it or not but I'll keep an eye out and post it if something turns up.
No-gi tomorrow, I expect to do a bit better and be prepared for the long haul with food. I feel pretty good, just a bit of lower back pain probably from the takedown.

sounds like your first match was a bit of a war. Hope you enjoyed it and good luck with the no gi.

Much less people showed up for no-gi today so it progressed alot faster.
My division was 214lbs. I weighed in at 210. It was only 3 of us so I already won a medal. haha.
First roll was with a guy shorter and stockier than me. Once again I got taken down. He dominated positionally but never got a threatening sub on me. I was way down on points but escaped his side control and took his back. I didn't get my hooks in so no points, but all I was thinking was going for the choke. I dug my wrist in and felt throat, he tapped shortly thereafter.
Second roll was with the guy who beat me yesterday. He takes me down into guard. We struggle for awhile. He was wise to my ways and I couldn't do a kimura sweep. Also tried to do a proper setup for a triangle but couldn't do shit. He wasn't passing my guard but was working hard at it. Eventually I was frustrated and I beleive he got the pass when I went for a triangle (same mistake I made yesterday). More struggling, he took my back, rear naked choke on me. I struggled for a bit but made the mistake of pulling where the choke was instead of attacking his arm. Eventually tapped. Second place.
Feel pretty sore, but determined to get back into training. I have a Lamb of God/Metallica concert the day after tomorrow that I hope to hold the barricade on, so I'll probably take a couple days to rest after that and then get back to business.

Bought Fedor's new book as well as a BJJ book by Eddie Bravo. Going to digest these over the next month or two and then look into getting a BJJ dvd set. I'm resting today. Going to see if I can get an X-ray or something of my arm tomorrow, then see about returning to training tomorrow as well.

Finally back into the weightroom. Man that felt great and was way overdue. I improved my barbell complex from the last one to make it flow better, though it's now much harder. Also added 10lbs... Bit of a mistake because I didn't come close to completing it.
Barbell Complex (55lbs X 6 Sets X 6 Reps X 60 Seconds Rest)
Good Morning
Overhead Squat
Stiff Legged Deadlift
Bent Over Row
Reverse Grip Curl
Military Press
Skullcrusher
Only completed my first set... went 6, 4, 3, 3, 3, 2. Same weight next week, I'll get further though.
Ab Circuit (120 Second rest)
Weighted Twisting Crunch 20,20 @ 45lbs
Reverse Crunch 15,15 @ bodyweight
Cable Crunch 20,20 @ 150lbs
Ab Plank 0:50, 0:50
Whew.
Here's a pic from Thailand with the advanced classes trainers.
Also today marks the end of my shitty eating habits that have sprung up as of late.
No deep fried food
No carbonated beverages
No alcohol
So far I'm on day 2.

I just read through the majority of your log and I can say, I'm not only impressed, but you've motivated me to get back into MMA training (I recently moved into New York City and am havin a hard time finding a good place).
but this sounds great, man. I look forward in hearing what results in this. I'll be checkin back in regularly.
