BJJ

Warmed up with jumping jacks, squats, pushups, some ab stuff. Drilled some guard passes...I doubt these terms are the formal names but anyways... the monkey punch, the baseball slide, and a couple others. Practiced a simple guard break. Then we did guard passes. Once again I did well here passing guards and only got passed as I was showing him what to do.

In advanced we started by shark tanking the 3 guys going to compete in the Pan Ams in L.A. this week? next week? I don't know. Anyways I got kind of screwed here because at the end of the sharktank I was on the best guy there and got put in a triangle and otherwise dominated. I was pretty gassed and it was then my turn to get shark tanked. I did alright, I didn't get submitted though I got put into some very dangerous positions where I would have been finished with a more experienced guy. I did otherwise alright even when the gas tank ran out I was able to get out of bad positions.

After the shark tanking was done we worked a few escapes. First was an armbar from mount, you grab with your free hand for a extra few moments of saftey, swing your legs to create moment to pull yourself stacked on top of them, bring your one leg up behind them so as to not get swept back down, and then apply pressure and yank your arm out as if you were drawing a sword. Then there was a cool triangle escape where you posture, grip your hands into their stomach, lean down and stand up, then grab behind their head and posture yourself up explosively, then you can swing your legs to the side to pass. Unfortunately while drilling this my partner swung my legs over my head and I got rolled over my head twice with quite a bit of force. My neck and upper back felt pretty shitty after that. Their just sore now, but I think they'll stiffen up a lot in a few hours. Final escape that I learned was from side control with them applying shoulder pressure, cup your hand over their shoulder and pull your elbow in tight while you pull their shoulder off. Then bring your feet up to your butt and punch the sky with your free arm as you bridge, then right as space is made available, use your other hand to punch the sky in the other direction and turn around into top position with them turtled.

Then I got pulled aside to roll with Dave our black belt instructor. It would be a bit greedy to think that I could do well here, but I was really hoping that I could at least demonstrate that I had some sort of grasp on the sport. That didn't happen today. We started from a stand. He kind of stood there not really moving, just facing me with that quiet confidence that he had an answer for whatever I could throw at him. Regardless after circling it became apparent that I was going to have to do the takedown here. I shot in for the takedown, got a single leg, took him down, he had a kimura on me before we hit the ground. This happened like 3 times in a row, I'm pretty sure I got armbarred at least once as well. I also ended up with him mounted on me, with his hips digging into mine, legs wrapped, with his whole body on me and I couldn't move. Couldn't bridge, couldn't cross face to make space with my arms, nothing. I had never had a mount like that on me before. Anyways, that was all of it. His pointers were to relax and not force the action, and to have a lower base for the takedowns. I'm going to have to work on surviving taking a black belt down.

My left arm took a beating today with kimuras and armbars, it's sore again which is really shitty. My neck and upper back are probably pulled and I'm going to have alot of pain and stiffness tomorrow.

My back hurts today and I feel lethargic, so I won't be training today. It's probably for the best because I have to go get my ass kicked tomorrow at the pro gym and my face still hasn't completley healed from last week. I don't think I'll be doing the Modified Pankration because the rules seem to leave too much up in the air about what is allowed and what isn't.

Training @ fortress

Get in, wrap up, stretch, shadowbox.

Sparring. I think I did 5-6 rounds of 5 minutes. My first round was with Pele, who I heard has no concept of going light in sparring. Everyone was pretty uneasy about Pele sparring and I get put with him first. Great. Actually things went really well and he was very chill. I didn't hit hard because I didn't want to take advantage of him going light on me only to have him unleash the fury on me. So I survived that. I got a round with Kajan as well as a couple other guys, and all went pretty well. I got whacked quite a bit, but not as much as prior days, still, the blood was flowing from my nose before long. I think it's going to be permanently sore now.

After standup sparring we did 2 rounds of 5 mins just grappling from guard with light strikes. I got paired with the big boy sitting at 275. I started in his guard but got rolled over pretty quick. That's okay, I like the guard. He kept his weight on me and I felt pretty smothered but managed to keep him occupied. As he was reaching his arm back to my legs to try and break them I went for a triangle but he was too close to me and his neck was too thick for that to land, so he ended up up passing to side control. In hindsight I should have transitioned to an armbar. Battled here for awhile I was completely gassed but managed to find half guard and eventually reguard. That's about it. Next round we started in my guard and I was able to be a bit more active. Got a kimura sweep and took mount and then went back and forth between back control and mount. I was close to getting a rnc but it was difficult to get access to his throat, especially with mma gloves on. So I just jumped between these two positions doing light strikes. That's about it.

Next we did drills on the bags. 3 rounds, we did 20-30 seconds or so of regular bag work doing whatever, then he would say GO! and we'd do a constant 1-2 for 10-20 seconds. I also got pulled off the bag and had to do this shadowboxing with some dumbbells in my hands. That was tiring.

Finally we did 'ab conditioning' which is being put against the wall with your hands on your head and then getting punched in the stomach and side for 30 seconds, clinch and throw your partner against the wall, then do the same. We did this back and forth 2 or 3 times each. Class is over. Pain is mounting.

Not so sure if I'm doing the sub grappling in the tiger balms this saturday. I was lazy and didn't mail my registration which apparently has to be in by the 20th. So it looks like my only other option would be to drive to vancouver on friday and register. I was kind of hoping to train friday, and don't really want to drive all the way out there and back friday and saturday. I won't be too heartbroken if I don't enter.

Muay Thai

Skipping, shadowboxing, drilled combos on partners.

MMA
Run, tumbling, technique was lots of work finding GNP positions from half guard and side control. Don't feel like going over them. After we practiced them we drilled starting from half guard.

Today I felt very tired, hurt, and unmotivated. It's just been a few tough classes this wee, monday+wednesday were killers. I'm not training tomorrow, going to get plenty of rest and probably not do any conditioning at all next week. My sleepings been ******* terrible again, once that falls apart everything goes. I'm going back to STRICTLY no caffeine whatsoever. No more using it to catchup on shitty days, I'm going to grin and bear it.

The total pain is joint soreness in my shoulders and elbows, especially on my left side. My sides aches from taking those body shots for that drill on wednesday, it's not muscle soreness, my actual kidney or liver hurts. Shin splints are lingering, back and neck are sore and stiff. My left thumb hurts because I somehow punched someone with just my thumb connecting. Oh, and my nose is really bruised underneath and just poking it hurts, never mind it getting crushed.

Looks like it's best that I sit out for awhile longer. My sides still have sharp pains whenever I have pressure on my upper body..it's some sort of internal bruising. This is really frustrating. Finished the first class then went home.

Strength Conditioning

Squats 6,6,6 @ 225lbs
DB Bench 6,6 @ 80lbs
Weighted Chin Up 6,6,6 @ B/W +10lbs

First day back after a week or so of rest. The squats weren't feeling strong so I lowered the weight, same weight on db bench, +5s on the chinups. I felt a pain in one my sides while benching but it wasn't too bad. Hopefully that's the most I'll feel during classes, guess we'll find out.

My diets been slacking during the week off, time to tighten up again. I'll probably go in for some burpee rounds tomorrow or hold off until monday morning. Ordered another batch of supplements. Mostly the same old stuff.

84 days to my fight.

Nice. I never have any answers for both those guys so it doesn't surprise me that they kicked some ass. Did you compete? Thanks for the update.

High potency multvitamin
Whey blend
Fish oils
Creatine monohydrate

Sometimes when I'm lazy I'll take NO-Xplode before I lift, but I always pay the price in lost sleep.

My diet isn't ideal at all and is really repetitve, but I can maintain it at least.

7am - Protein shake
9am - Cottage cheese + Granola + Fruit
11am - Chicken/Salmon + Brown Rice/Potatoes + Vegetables
3pm - Protein shake
6pm - Oatmeal + Milk + Bananas
8pm - Protein shake
9pm - Random dinner (pasta,chicken burger,whatever)
11pm - Protein shake

It's around 4000 calories.

I also drink V8 randomly throughout the day and at least 6L of water.

I'll be swapping out the 3PM protein shake for something more solid, I drink alot of that shit because I'm too lazy to cook. Thinking tuna sandwiches.
