No Gi -

Technique was more butterfly guard passes. A step over one and a trap -> backstep one. Off of the backstep one, we transitioned to a cradle, a wrestling move hooking around their head cupping at the jaw with one hand and around the knee of their top leg with the other, you then bring them in together to trap them in a very uncomfortable position. From here we stepped around the trapped leg with our legs one at a time, then left one knee behind the tapped leg while the other moved behind their but, squeezing your knees together traps them well for gnp, an arm triangle or a kneebar.

Was suppossed to meet with training partner for padwork but he seems to be asleep still so probably not happenning.

Got these burns on my arm from work that keep getting grinded off in class. Annoying. Groin was feeling better but is a bit tender after muay thai class yesterday.

Gym closes an hour earlier on weekends now, 5 on sat, 4 on sun. Makes getting to the gym after work a bit tight. I'll do burpees, shadowboxing, bagwork tomorrow to finish off the week.

3 - 25
4 - 23
5 - 27

Medium Term Goal : Win my next fights - June 4th & July 16th.

Goals last week:

-3 Grappling Classes SUCCESS
-1 Striking Class SUCCESS
-3 Heavybag/Shadowbox sessions FAIL
-2 Pads or sparring with partner FAIL
-1 GSP Workout Day SUCESSS
-Finish "Roy Dean's Blue Belt Requirements" FAIL
-Find a torrent for "Ryan Hall's Back Attacks" SUCCESS
-Week 2 of drinking 7 Litres of water everyday to finish water loading for a practice weight cut SUCCESS
-Do a drop in at Mamba's MMA for an evening FAIL

Didn't have it as a goal this week, but got my burpees in. Lacking in solo/partner striking time. Was tough to book time in with the training partner but that's no real excuse, I should be working on my own. Having trouble finding motivation to watch BJJ instructionals when I do get spare time. Waiting on the drop in to Mamba's for when Kajan trains there.

Goals this week:
-4 Grappling Classes
-2 Muay Thai Classes
-2 Sparring Sessions
-2 Padwork Sessions
-2 Shadowboxings/Heavybag Session
-1 GSP Workout
-1 Burpee Session
-Finish "Roy Dean's Blue Belt Requirements"
-Practice weight cut- Water Cutting starts on wednesday, pretend weigh in will be on friday evening. The pretend fight will be my saturday workout.

2X BJJ Classes

Lots of technique, mostly comboing submissions and sweeps. Lots of rounds, won most, lost a few, tapped a few people, didn't get tapped. I keep looking for kneebars in gi but don't go for them because it's bad manners. Oh well.

Kneebars are bad manners?

Nothing like gym drama to make adult men act like high school girls.

Kneebars are illegal below brown belt level in the gi.

Totally. Sucks because I've liked training under both parties.

Muay Thai

Warmup, then round kicks on the shield, then doubling up, then opposite leg. I started on these going pretty hard and geting into it, then the round went on and on. Didn't realize it was going to be 10-15 mins of straight kicks. Then we did push kicks, then push kicks to round kicks. Finished with a drill, partner holding one leg then hopping on the ball of your foot while they lead you around for a few mins. Then assisted stretching.

Then sparring. 5x3 min rounds. Did decent against the first guy for 3 rounds, then got a really good and aggressive little guy that got inside on me and got the better of me. Last round I wasn't looking great but did alright against another guy. Same old holes in the standup - no suprises there. I know exactly what needs work and need to visualize and repeat the same 5 or so lacking aspects in my mind.

Lots of shit hurting from sparring, the body breakdown has begun.

Practice water cut starts with water reduction tomorrow.

Half guard sweep, lame rolls. Day off tomorrow so I'll get some extra work in.

Water cut in half, weight pre water cut is 209.4lbs and 11.8% b/f. Last day of taking creatine.

Goals of the practice water cut:
- Experiment with how much weight I can cut
- See how dramatic of a diet is necessary for 190 and 185. I like food.
-See how taking creatine right up to the water cut affects things.

In the words of a wrestling coach I once met: "Food is for quitters."

That said, good luck with the cut. It's a different experience for everyone. Take it at your own pace. Don't try to push it too hard.
