Monday October 6
Squats 6, 4 @ 225lbs
Deadlifts 6, 6, 6 @ 225lbs
DB Bench Press 6, 6, 6 @ 70lbs
First day back after a week of rest brought on by pink eye, its still not gone, but I gotta do something or I'll go crazy. Not the kind of thing I'd like to have on my only week of rest, but didn't have much of a choice and you've got to suck it up and work around the obstacles. Early morning gym went pretty well. Squats failed early but Deadlifts and Bench Press saw improvements. Didn't skip today. Weight is 210lbs. I want to go to BJJ this evening but the pink eye is still lingering so I guess I'm twiddling my thumbs for a little longer...

God damn I was tired this morning. Overslept yesterday so I only got 3-4 hours of sleep before the morning workout. We did punching combos which I still had plenty of power in, then 100 kicks which were more grueling than usual, then 50 knees which went well, then push kicks across the gym. Overall it was a tough morning to get though, it feels like our cardio has evaporated in a week, but I'm sure it's just because it was our first day back. Back to sleep I go.

Squats 5 @ 235lbs
Deadlifts 6,6,6 @ 235lbs
DB Bench 6,4 @ 75lbs
Skipping 15 mins
First part of skipping I did really well. Then my arms started to tire and I started to break down a bit but kept going. Deadlifts continuing to improve, squats and db bench have reached their sticking point, so it's time to drop the weight down slightly and build up momentum again to break through them. Weight seems to have found its consistent point at 211lbs. MMA this evening.

Back at it, today was MMA class. Warmed up with lots of pummelling.
Technique started with passing guard, standing up, knee on butt, push down on their knee breaking the guard, step in with one leg, spring back, fake swing the legs aside, swing legs aside other way, knee on their stomach, hands on their shoulders, slide into side control.
Then we learned a new escape from being mounted, shrimp up, turn onto side, bring your knee to your elbow to force their knee up, take half guard, repeat on the otherside.
And finally a sweep when they're in your half guard, can't explain it well enough because I didn't grasp it too firmly.
Then we rolled starting from our knees with almost no break. First up was my partner, as we came in to get underhooks his jaw got smacked squarely into my shoulder and he started to bleed, but he seemed alright besides a bit dazed. We were back and forth getting into dominant positions and then reversing them. I almost caught him in a arm triangle choke, but he managed to sneak his hand in before I could seal it and make space, I tried a move I saw on the ultimate fighter the other day, swept him while I had him in a weak triangle, and almost finished him, but couldn't get the leg tight enough and he rolled me. He caught me in a guillotine, I could have fought it and wasn't choking but it wasn't worth the drama on my neck.
Next up rolled with a smaller guy that nearly rear naked choked me right off the bat, but I made space and snuck out. We had a pretty back and forth roll as well. I almost arm triangle choked, but once again I messed it up this time by not locking his own arm across his neck tight enough. I stayed in mount for most of the time but couldn't find a submission.
Another guy who's probably the easiest I roll with. He did better than usual because he knows my moves but I still dominate positionally.
Next was a stronger and more experienced guy who usually dominates me. He did again for the most part but I managed to work my way out of a few submissions. However he still landed an armbar, a kimura, and a guillotine. We rolled for like 10 minutes though so it wasn't that terrible. He gave a few pointers about how I keep giving up my arm, oops.
My wrist hurts I beleive from the DB bench presses this morning and then it acted up again after class tonight. I'll ice it and hopefully it'll turn around. Might have to change my workout tomorrow morning though because they're all pretty wrist intensive.

Morning Gym
Towel Pullups 7,7,7
Dips 13,13,13
Overhead Squats 10,10,10
Great morning, slight improvements all around.
Jiu-Jitsu class...
Brutal warmup, technique was scissor choke, alternate scissor choke, armbar combo, also practiced passing guard. Nothing to spectacular to report aside from that. Pele tomorrow.

I felt pretty crappy when I woke up so I made an executive decision to call the morning pad work off.
Pele wasn't around to teach today, but we had another Brazilian fellow who gave us a good workout.
Stretched, then practiced raising alternating knees straight up without moving the rest of our body, then did it with push kicks instead, then round kicks, then we did a constant 1-2 in slow and fast intervals. Then some shadowboxing, starting with just boxing, then adding knees, then adding kicks. From there we geared up and practiced a few combos on eachother involving 1-2s, blocking and catching kicks, countering, etc. He came around and everyone gave him 20 hard kicks on the shield. Then light sparring with 3 or 4 people. Finished with group sit up festivities. Everyone linked legs and each person counted to 20, there was over a dozen of us. Nothing too exciting to report aside from that so I'm going to get some sleep so I'm in a good mood for the gym tomorrow and finish off strong.
