BJJ yesterday went over transitioning from side control to north side and a kimura from north south as well as really breaking down the kimura from side control. Also did some conditioning, hurdles, lunges with medicine ball, sprints, mile run on the treadmill, and power bounds with medicine ball. Today is more conditioning and some muay thai

Didn't go to the gym yesterday because of weather. All I did was some extensive stretching.

Today was bjj and muay thai. In jj we did a couple of guard passes and pretty much drilled them over and over and over again and then did some rolling. Muay thai we did some conditioning that consisted of wheelbarrows, piggyback rides, fireman's carries, and dragging your partner with underhooks from behind. Pretty much everything that is not fun. Then we did the thing where one guy stands up and you climb around him. Like they did on the second season of Ultimate Fighter and Joe Daddy and Mike Whitehead did like two hundred, after doing them myself I honestly dont see how the hell they did that so many times. Then we got out the thai pads and did kicks with both legs, then jab cross lead kick, and then jab cross hook rear kick and then we did jab to jumping knees and push kicks. Weighed out at 157. I am not really dieting or anything yet though. I also got some bjj tips from Mojo who just helped me out with some leg lock defense that I was struggling with and a go go plata. He won his last fight by the way and is now fighting Cale Yarborough in March.

I just remembered my log after seeing one in my usercp. Today I had some bjj where we worked on a lot of options from butterfly guard including getting to butterfly guard from full guard. I like the butterfly guard to create scrambles and get back to my feet so I will be working on it a lot. And then I did something I got from the website 8weeksout.com. I put the treadmill on a 15% incline and on 11 MPH and I ran that for twenty seconds then rested until my heart rate got under 120 and repeated that 8 times and then ran a half mile at 6 mph. I also did that interval training saturday and I already feel like my cardio is getting way better. Its hard and intense but its more fun than running like 3 or 4 miles on a treadmill and more functional for mma IMO.

Today was bjj with Jim Kelly(black belt under Rickson). I started off before class with a two mile run where the last half mile was at no less than 10 miles per hour for conditioning and I did some bag work. Really working on my lead leg switch kick. BJJ was doing a lot of drills like shrimping, bridging, side control bridges, guard pass drills, and a drill where you hit spinning armbars from both sides.

Today I had bjj at five and we covered some basics from half-guard. A couple sweeps and just getting a good underhook and staying tight. Some situational rolling. Then I ran two miles on the treadmill and had a protein shake then muay thai at seven thirty. Class was some laps and brutal partner stretches to warmup and then got out the thai pads and 4x4x4 which is four punches, four knees, and then four kicks with the same leg. Then do it again and do the other leg. We did that for three minutes which is long as hell to do that. Then some other combos on the pads and the some clinch work which was really tough for the guy getting clinched because you had to try to keep your head up and that tired out my neck and traps really bad. Then some "play sparring" which is sparring very lightly where its all about technique and trying things out. Good day overall. Tomorrow im taking off and then mma sparring friday.

Sparring was really good and brutal. My right leg is really tight from Mojo kicking the crap out of it. I went through 3 rounds of mma sparring with 4 ounce gloves light and then I would say somewhere between 7-10 rounds of stand up sparring with 12 oz. gloves and shin guards. I went 3 rounds with Mojo and he was going easy on me so I could work my stuff but once he would get me tired or if I landed too many leg kicks he would start lighting me up and he actually dropped me with a leg kick at one point lol. I am struggling with a few things but I'm happy with my progression as a fighter and as a striker. I am loopy with my right hook and need to cut my angles better on my kicks and bring my hand across on my kicks. I just have some loopy bad habits but when I just stick to jabs and crosses as far as punches go I do pretty well. Two more weeks until my next fight and I feel good with where I'm at now.

The weight cut has officially started. I weighed in at 158.8 and weighed out at 156.6. I was not really trying to drop a lot of weight at the practice but im watching the diet and upping the cardio at this point.
Started off with bjj and went over some techniques for regaining guard once your opponent has side control and worked on getting up to my feet from my guard because I want to be on my feet or on top when I fight while my bottom game develops so I am tailoring my bjj to fit that style. Defensive guard, escaping back to my feet, and knowing what to do in bad situations. Then I hit the treadmill and ran three miles at kind of a spur of the moment interval. I would run at 11 or 12 MPH for 20-30 seconds or so and then 5 MPH for two minutes then 3 mph for 30 seconds then back up, etc....really just trying to burn some calories and keep my heart rate bouncing around.

I just watched all his fights on youtube. He looks heavy on the ground. Did he beat Josh Haynes? I saw they had that pre fight interview, but then I couldn't find the fight, and the fight isn't on his record on mixedmartialarts.com.
