sounds like u got it coverd. as much as a ground game is more usefull in the LW class. if i feel i can beat a guy standing i love to trade. Somthing about making the ref call the fight due to strikes is my fav way to win
Today's training
Striking: 8 3 minute rounds of heavybag work, with focus on hands, elbows and knees.
3 sets of 20 sprawls
5 minutes on heavybag (clinching)
1 set of 20 sprawls

1 set of 20 sprawls
20 minutes of shadowboxing, focus on keeping the hands moving
Today was a half day, so I just focussed on striking.
I was working on my standup today and I realized something. At 5'6" and 145 lbs I really don't have the power to KO an opponent with 1 punch. I'm a strong, thick guy, but I don't have the power to knock out anyone much bigger than me with a single punch.
The key to KOing anyone, at least for me, is the follow up. I can drop someone, or at least make them stumble, and then impose my will on them by throwing combinations and big right hands.
This is what I'm starting to work into my training routine. Instead of alot of power punching and quick 1-2-3 combinations, I'm starting to train bigger and bigger combinations, I'm up to about 6-7 punches right now. (that's all in one breath)
My grappling is really my forte, but focus on the hands is important too, so I thought I'd throw this little bit out there.
Yeah, we both have the big problem. About 60% of men (teenagers included) are taller than me, or at least that's what it seems like. So swinging for the fences seems stupid and impractical. If I'm going for a one shot KO I know it has to be a knee.
as for being smaller...close the gap and follow up....the insede game can be very devastating....
Im 5'10" with very good stand up...but my ground work needs the most improvement....Im explosive and very flexible on the ground but my standing is my strength....

Yeah, and that works for a taller, lighter, probably quicker guy. For me it's necessary to get as close as I can so I don't get worked over by my opponents jabs.
I do most of my damage from the thai clinch and dirty boxing position. Elbows are vicious, as is my right hand and my right knee, but if I'm fighting a taller guy I have to clinch, maybe throw one or two shots on him and then take him down.
That's really the key for me, I'm always looking for the takedown, always trying to set it up. I guesss one of the reasons why my takedowns get stuffed, even by good wrestlers, is because I throw a few shots at them first to give them something to think about.

thats the way to take ppl down...if u just shoot then is easy to defend it...
my takedowns are not the best....especially if Im not hitting u...my best takedown is a straight right hand....
