Hey guys I've been an MMA fan for years and I've decided too take the plunge and start training for it. I've been powerlifting for the last 3 years so I've got a good strength base but I've really got to work on my conditioning. (i.e.-powerlifter=fatty fat fat fat)

My plan is basically this:
Step 1-Cut heavy weight training too 2 days a week and work on rigorous conditioning type stuff(bbell complexes, jump rope, high rep mini band stuff, sled dragging, etc) for a few months until I lose some weight and get in better shape.Right now I'm 245 @ about 20% bf, would like too be @ 210-220.

Step 2-Start taking classes in a city nearby(I live in a small town in central AB), probably Arashi Do in Red Deer. This will be hard because I work long shifts(12 hrs) on long hitches(15 days on, 6 off) but I'm pretty obsessive about my hobbies so I should be able too work it out.

Yesterday I did the following at work:
Jump rope x 2 min
Plyo jumps up 2 flights of stairs then back down x 2min
mini band wood chops x 15 a side
3 sets of this

Today I went too the gym
Bench Press
135x5
185x5
225x5
250x5

Standind OHP s/s w Chin Ups
135x7 BWx6(pr)
135x7 BWx5
135x6 BWx4

Dips s/s w DB Row(both hands, leaning like a BB row)
BWx10 85sx7
45lbx6 85sx6
BWx11 80sx6

Face Pulls
2 sets x20 reps

I've been doing a powerlifting program called the 5/3/1, which has been awesome for strength but I'll have too switch to some type of full body 2x a week routine.

Hey guys, have'nt been able to post, I was put on a truck at work instead of in the plant so I could'nt use the computer there and my laptop at home is fucked, my 2 year old daughter pulled on the power cord and dislodged the pin inside so I can't charge it. Wukka, I'll post that vid when I get my laptop fixed, probably next week.

My first Bjj class was a lot of fun! The guys there were relaxed and really nice. After warming up we drilled arm bar from the mount. I had a hard time getting all the steps down at first(I wanted too take the arm with my hand instead of an underhook, kept on throwing my legs up when I went back) but after doing it for a while I felt a lot more comfortable with it.

Next was rolling starting forom the mount. The instructor told me to concentrate on defending, keep my chin in and my elbows tucked so I spent a lot of time mounted and tapping out lol. After about 3 rounds I ended up rolling a guy over and getting in his guard! I don't know exactly what I did but it felt pretty good! The instructor took me aside and showed me how too bump and shrimp my way out of mount(remember, this was my first class ever) and then class was over.

It's going too be hard to drive 100 miles to get to this class every week but I really want too do this. I'm going too order a Gi at the end of the month and buy a membership. I'm trying too get a few buddies interested so I can have somebody too pitch in for gas and come along for the drive. I think I can work it out!

Took a bit off training after this and then did a few "whatever I feel like" workouts

kid dry heaving x me laughing my ass off

Thanks man, I can see myself getting addicted to it, it's a blast!

Squatted after work yesterday...
Oly Sqt, belted
135x5
225x12
255x6

Deficit Deads off aerobic step, beltless.
225x5
295x6
345x4

Wanted 15 with 225 but I was so bagged from work that I racked it like a vag. I need to start following some type of organized program instead of just ******* around. Maybe 5/3/1 again...

Did some overhead work today...

Strict Press
95x7
135x5
185x3
200x1
135x10

My previous PR on this was 205x2, so this was a little disheartening. It must be the weight loss.

Chins, BW
6,5,4,4

CGBP
185x12
185x9x2

DB Rows on incline bench, both arms at same time.
80sx3 sets, over 10 reps

Well, it's been quite the ******* week.

I started last days off by having to replace my water heater so no cash for bjj, then I took a few days off the gym too relax.

My neighbor, who is a 100lb single mother asked me too move a table set she had bought into her house, she said she needed to "borrow my muscles" (note to woman:if you need a guy too help you with anything, he will do it if you mention the fact that he has muscles and that you need them. This is also a good way too have his wife refer to you as a "skank" behind your back.)

So i puff myself up and head over too her van too tackle this table set from hell with my much needed muscles. We first try too team carry it(it was all in one box)but she can't even lift her end probably because her arms are the diameter of a cigar.

I then decide that the best and most impressive course of action is to try to clean and jerk the box up overhead and carry it in like Conan the Cimmerian. I succeed in doing this and turn triumphantly too carry it in to her house when I step into a pothole, crumple and drop the table set onto my ******* head. I feel my neck twist at an angle that it was not meant to go and hear a sound like rice krispies over a megaphone. The table set then falls to the ground with a deafening crash that signifies that it is obviously broken in many, many places.

I pull myself off the ground, my face a blinding red of pain and mass embaressment, and then begin to carry the destroyed table set that is the bane of my existence in an injured hobble that makes the three stooges look like Fred Astaire. My neighbour than looks at me with a combination of pity, amusement, and worry and says "are you o.k.?" I say "I think I might've tweaked my neck a little." although judging by the pain I've clearly completely destroyed it. "I've got something for that!" she says and offers to rub some kind of balm shit on it, I politely refuse as I don't want to add castration by wife to my broken neck.

So, I've spent the last week+ laying on my couch in a pain killer stupour asking my wife for neck rubs to which the reply usually is "why don't you get table whore next door to do it you moron?!". The doctor said the X-Rays were fine and that I just strained or pulled some muscles in it, and it is feeling better now.

So the moral of the story kids? Don't help anyone, especialy cute single mothers! IT WILL RUIN YOUR ******* LIFE! Or at least don't be a show off dipshit about it...

I'm going to try the gym tommorow, should be good to go.

Did this yesterday, full body.

Deadlift
225x5
295x5
365x5
415x3
365x5

Push Press
135x5
165x7
185x5
205x5

Row from floor(pendlay)
135x5
225x5x3

Oly. Squat
135x10
185x12(belt)
235x6(belt)

I used too lift this way all the time, really got on an old time strong man kick a year or so ago. I find it's a lot of fun but pretty easy too burn out. You know you had an efficient workout when you don't leave the rack! I was completely bagged by the time I got to squats. My neck took it OK, was a little leary during the deadlifts though.

Had fun with this today. Found out there is supposedly a Gracie Barra purple belt that lives in my town that trains out of Calgary. I've been trying to track him down, if I can get private lessons here it would be a lot less costly then driving too Red Deer 4-6 times a month. Oil Patch here is kind of in the shitter, finances have been pretty tight at the herder house hold.:(
