Trip

Hey guys,

I wanted to let you know that I made a choice to forgo the bjj tournament in july.

I need to see my uncle paul who's been battling cancer for over a year now. He's had three different attacks.

I was unable to go with my parents to see him the last two times he's had them visit him at his home, so I am going with them instead of competing.

I will remain in the fight ready status and complete my fight camp as if nothing were in the way of me competing.

I did some extra research on potassium and found that papaya is a good potassium rich food.

I bought a 5 pound papaya chunked it up today and made a smoothie with it and about a pound of strawberry.

I had to find a way to get a potassium dump into my diet due to cramps during the bjj.

I'll be heading to practice in a few hours and we'll see how it works out.

Fights

It is awesome the instructor has a standing invitation for me to come to his house on friday nights now.

He and I watch some fights through HDnet, japanese fights and various others.

It was cool at the end of the night he showed me a dvd of one of my team-mates from about 4 years ago, it showed me with my eyes how effective one of the take downs we've learned recently is.

Last night was insane, hyped up all day long at work left at 2 got a nap in and started to party at 4, there was a huge block party at the instructor's home.

I was thoroughly impressed with Donald Cerone's Performance...even though he ground out a decision.

Carwin sure as hell took a beating, but impressed me.

I talked with the instructor after a good portion of the crowd had left and he is perfectly cool with the situation in july.

From here on out all I have to do is get stronger, faster, and deadlier.

BMI test

I wanted to let you guys know, that I went in and had my dietitian give me this test today.

She shocked me greatly today,

Apparently if I do nothing currently I burn off 2,510 calories/daily.

With all of my regime for training with my goal of cutting to 155 I should take in 3,200, currently I have been maintaining a diet of 2,000 with all of the needed nutrients.

I think I will go and do a body mass index testing prior to my weight cuts in the future.

Well, I'm on the road to 155 and I've made some huge progress I am sitting at 162.5 pounds currently.

I will continue with my diet until I hit 160 and then I will go back to eating normally until I hear of another tournament.

The goal was to get into a range for water cutting of 5 pounds of weight, I'd say I have done rather well in that regard seeing as I dropped from 170-72 in about 2 months.

It is no rapid cut like I've heard of but it is rapid enough for me, due to the fact I've never actually lost weight intentionally.

Things are looking up.

I have an injury that is plaguing me after 2 to 3 weeks of recovery time.

I had given blood and they messed up on the needle placement, it resulted in bruising my left bicep.

The bicep has returned to the normal color, but the back of the elbow nearest the tricep is starting to turn red.

I am happy because the bicep has been giving me a hell of a lot of grief.

Onto sparring:

I went to the gym tuesday night I watched and helped the guys warm up, because I was worried I wouldn't be able to go through the warmups.

I went into the drilling session we had and had minor inconveniences I told my partner to be extremely careful with the left side and told him I'd be taping rather fast on it, fortunatly there was no huge issues.

I wanted to see if I could go through with live rolling and got 4-6 rolls in.

One of the rolls I had I battled a cramp in my left foot I was in an open guard when it happened. I held out for about 2 minutes past the cramp, like the instructor says I have a damned huge heart when it comes to my fighting spirit!

I did annoy mike my wrestling partner, he had taken my back and was looking for the rear-naked choke.

I had remembered to turtle up and do a variation of the shrimp by lying on your side.

I defended myself from the choke for nearly 2 minutes or longer before succumbing.

On Wednesday night I was working with two kids at church seeing how well they could fight with no knowledge in bjj.

Danny who was about 5'7' 135-145 got lucky and subbed me in our first roll.

I know I cannot be proud of subbing him with a body triangle from the closed guard but I know it is something that I need to work on my lethality with true intentions of snapping a person.

Mike was about 5'9" 205.

He was armbar happy, I moved him around a little easier than I have with Jerry who's at 260. Mike had me in a very tight full mount not sure how he got there but he did. I tried to shrimp out as hard as I could to no avail...with some guidance he scored an arm bar on me.

Later on I showed him how to control someone with the closed guard. I sunk the body triangle on him and was trying to situp and haul his head down, eventually I swept him got my legs in place for the arm bar, he had his hands in a gable grip.

We battled for 10-20 seconds before I broke his grip and defeated him.

I figure if I can teach these 2 guys how to maintain their mounts and look for the arm bar I'll have two very good sparring partners when I'm not rolling in the gym.

Hey guys,

I am doing well now I have recovered from a large hematoma on my left bicep that made it excrutiatingly painful to do any kind of workouts for 3 weeks.

I am slowly working back to my power-base.

I hit my weights hard this week.

So far I am doing more than I did prior to my injury.

I am feeling rejuvenated and ready to go through a 3-4 week power rebuilding program before I head back to the gym.

personal session with instructor

On monday I had a 45 minute session with brad.

He gave me a new direction today in how he envisions me producing a whole new striking game with my hands.

He introduced me to Kyokushin Karate.

It was unique learning a whole new stance, but the straight right strike is vastly more devastating from here compared to the right you can deliver from a boxing stance.

I feel I could counter-fight more out of this stance as well, in addition it feels better to throw the rear thai roundhouse kick.

It should be interesting to see what sort of power difference there is when I work on the bag again.

Things have been going great with the 2nd week of full training.

I am over the initial shock of the new circuit weight has subsided.

I am working on taking the rudimentary fundamentals of that new form along with a larger desire to increase my flexibility.
