Today was BJJ class again, some of it was repetitive but we did work on some new stuff.

We started with breaking a under the arms and over the arms bear hug. We worked on a hip toss which was a little challenging since I'm one of the smaller guys in the class, I had a bit of trouble getting the other guys off the ground. We also worked on doing a hip toss and then going into mount and working a couple over and under chokes.

We also have a new world champion black belt training at our gym. Rodrigo Ranieri De Faria and he is hosting a seminar this weekend, if anyone lives in Maine it is something to check out.

Today was Muay Thai and Strength&Conditioning Class.

First in Muay Thai we warmed up with the 2 rounds of rope and 2 rounds of shadow boxing. After that we worked on Thai kicks today. I found out that my flexibility is terrible and it is something I really need to work on. Any advice on that would greatly appreciated!

In S&C class first we worked on over head squats. We then did more conditioning work after that with 10 sprints down and back across the gym, I'm not sure what the exercise is called but you use the giant 20lb med balls and toss it to each other, catch it, squat down to your butt, lay down, touch the ball on the ground, and reverse the process and stand back up and toss the ball back. We did that 25 times each. Lastly we throwing rotations I guess you could call it with that same ball. Where you stand side ways next to each other in a straight line throw it, catch and twist while absorbing the force, twist and toss back.

It was a pretty good day of training I cant way to get back!

Here's my training update for last Thursday, I went away to Philadelphia for the weekend right after so I was unable to post.

On Thursday night first I had Muay Thai and we just did a ton of pad work and combo drills. It was a good class and really helped solidify more stuff for me.

I noticed my kicks were also better I'm starting to loosen up some but I still have a lot a lot of work to do.

After Muay Thai was Strength&Conditioning and it was a pretty intense one. We did some sprints, climbing pullup exercises (thats the best name I can come up with, there was multiple pullup bars on top of each other and you had to climb up them while doing pullups) To finish it off we did some ab work.

Stoked for BJJ tomorrow!

Monday: BJJ

In class on Monday we worked on defense from closed guard. Either getting your opponent to close so they can't generate enough power to knock you out or getting them far enough away so they can't hit you.

After that we worked on several different sweeps starting from closed guard if your opponent stood up.

Tuesday: Muay Thai and Strength&Conditioning

In MT class we worked on getting into and out of the clinch and also throwing knees to the body and face.

In S&C we did some HIIT work. One station you had to bear crawl up, over, and away from a 4x4 piece of lumber. Another you had to vault over a 3-4ft high box. The last one was the "giant piece of rope" held by two people and you had to try and whip it out of the other persons hands. It was pretty intense for the first part you had to do two one minute sets at each station continuously without a break. After that we got a 1 minute break and this is when 2 kids puked. Then we had to repeat with 2 30second sets at each station continuously with no break.

It was a pretty hard day of training but awesome.

Tonight is BJJ no-gi!

Another epic class tonight!

There was only four of us in the class tonight so we got to pick what we wanted to do. Today we went over the arm bar and triangle choke. I've been waiting to learn these so it was awesome.

I'm also trying to pack on atleast 12 lbs to get up to atleast 135lbs. So I've cranked up my intake since my metabolism burns food faster then a hummer burns through a tank of gas.

Muay Thai tonight. We worked on switches and then switching and throwing a knee, switch knee, etc.

We also switched it up and would do a switch, throw a thai kick, and into a knee.

Just a bunch of stuff involving switches, thai kicks, and knees. It was a pretty good class.

In strength in conditioning class we did Tabata intervals with squats, pushups, pullups and an ab exercise.

I'm back!

I want to start posting on this as much as possible again. I got really really busy with school and applying to colleges I completely forgot about this.

A few quick updates are that I decided join the wrestling team this year and I think it has really helped my ground game. Even though 2 weeks after I joined I found out that I had to get my shoulders reset and I was out for a month. I recently just got back and had my first match even though I lost I was proud of my performance. Since I was out for over a month I was very far behind on technique so I had to rely on the basics. I put up a good fight, I lost in the 3rd round with only 35 seconds left so it would have almost come down to points which we were close on.

Once wrestling is over I will be back at The Academy training in BJJ and Muay Thai and I can't wait for that. I also have a new coach that I will be going to see sometimes in Vermont to help me with strength and conditioning mainly and also Muay Thai, BJJ, and Wrestling. He has an impressive track record. In high school he was No. 2 in the United States for his weight class, Vermont State Champion, and he had a record of 147-26. He is also the Vermont Welter-Weight Champion, and has a BJJ record of 39-5. I'm super pumped to train with him!

Soon I'll post up my new workout routine and also start filling you guys in on all my training.
