The names Nate and I'm a senior in High School and new to MMA. I did the classic few years of Karate when I was 6 or 7 or so but then I needed to have surgery and I stopped. I have been working out a lot for the past couple months and I decided to take up martial arts again. So now I go to a local training center owned by two Professional Fighters and I train there several nights a week along with my other gym.
I literally JUST started as this week will be my first full week of training. I have had a muay thai class which I loved and hopefully ill be starting BJJ this week as well. I will also most likely be joining my high school wrestling team this year as well as it will definitely help out my ground work.
A bit more background on myself is I'm 17 and I need to pack on some wicked weight. I'm an extremely hardgainer, no matter how much I eat I just burn through it so I over around 120 to 125 lbs but I'd like to get up to the 135 range.
I think this will help me stay motivated but I could be more pumped up right now then to be training hard everyday.

First Muay Thai Class
I figured I would post what I did in my first Muay Thai trial class.
I had wanted to start MMA for a long time so last week I finally signed up for a free trial class at my local gym and joined a basic Muay Thai class.
We warmed up with 3 min jump rope, 20 seconds of stretching (they said 20 I think it was more along the lines of 45 seconds) and then we repeated that once, followed by 2 rounds of shawdow boxing. Since it was my first time me and the coach along with a couple other beginners went over the footwork during the first round.
Following the warm up we went over teeps. The two defensive teeps and the offensive teep. It took awhile to get used to the motions and the balancing but once I got the hang of it it was awesome. After learning one we would join with our sparring partner and spar for 2 rounds each practicing what we had learned. I must say sparring with a guy that weighs ~50lbs more then you is a bit different.

I was loaded down with homework today so I couldn't get in as much as I wanted too but I still got a lil something in.
3x5min rounds of skipping
3x5min rounds of shawdow boxing
I also worked on my teeps some.
Also I just got a new jump rope and I plan on getting another one if I can fix this one.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to straighten out a jump rope? I have hung it up and added a little weight to it and also heated it up. It has straightened out a little but it still isn't perfect. Any suggestions on how to straighten it out would be appreciated.
Can't wait to start training hard again tomorrow!
Today's muay thai class was awesome.
I brought a friend with me today to get his free class and I'm pretty sure I convinced him to sign up today so thats awesome.
We started off with the two rounds of jump rope and 2 round of shadow boxing to warm up and then today we covered left hooks. Since I have never taken martial arts before it was really good and beneficial learning the technique behind everything and it helped alot.
We went through about 8 exercises with the jab to work on technique and putting our hips into the punch to get everything perfect.
It was awesome.
I can't wait to get back tomorrow and hit up my first Jiu Jitsu class I'm excited to start learning that as well.
If you have any tips since I'm a beginner feel free to share them!
I don't have any tips training wise but I'd guess a small weight placed in the middle of the rope while you jump would help. Maybe put it in the washing machine a few times:confused:

First BJJ Class.
Well today was interesting and fun. I found out I suck at rolling in a straight line so I'm going to have to work on that a ton to get it right.
After the warm up we worked on some throws from a rear choke and then once they are on the ground we did some ground technique.
It was a super beginner class so getting your knees up under their armpits and then your feet down under their thighs and when they try to push up to throw you off stick your feet in underneath and extend your hips to collapse their legs. Then we practiced staying on their back and in control while rolling back and forth from stomach to back and so on.
Next we learned the rear naked choke. First the instructor did it to us so we know what he feels like, etc. And then we just practiced in on each other for awhile.
After the BJJ class I did a few rounds on the heavy bad to work on my teeps and the hook technique from yesterday.
Another good day of training and I'm definitely getting a lot more comfortable.
Unfortunately I couldn't train tonight due to personal matters. But I can't wait to hit the mats tomorrow. I'll update tomorrow with what I did in the gym but it looks like it'll be BJJ class and some strength training!
Tonight was another BJJ class (with GI). This was only my second class and we covered a lot of new material. We started with the warm up which was the same as last time and got a good sweat going during it.
Next we worked on under and over chokes from guard.
Next we worked on from guard performing a side-sweep going to mount and performing an over choke.
I got each of them pretty quick and then worked with my partner for awhile on each one of them.
After class I did a few rounds on the bag and then a few rounds of rope.
It was a pretty good training session tonight and learned lots of new things, can't wait for next week!
Here's an update for this weekend. I took yesterday off as my rest day and then today I just did a simple strength training session with a few rounds of rope and then I worked legs, chest, and back.
I've also been trying to eat a minimum of 4,000 calories daily since this past week in attempt to pack on more weight.
Tomorrow I head back to The Academy and I start off the week with BJJ and I couldn't be more stoked on it!
