us lighter wieghts bring speed, agility, and technique. some light weight are surprisingly very strong too.

the same happened to me when i went to my first bjj tournament. i was like if this is any thing like judo i will medal. everything went wrong, nothing like how i pictured it. at the end of my match i was sitting in an arm bar with tendon damage, when the buzzer went off. my team was speachless, i was in shock and in pain.
i never have stepped on the mat since then thinking i would know the outcome, win or lose. my new belive is, it is up to me to make it happen & up to my team to help prepare me for whomever is standing on the opposing line.

yea i know that now and i could see the difference. when i was going against the bigger guys i was like "i have to do it" not knowing what would happen. against the smaller guy i just thought id walk through him and i made a mistake and paid big time for it haha

Happens to all of us. I once underestimated some guy because I'd never seen him in class before. Well we started, pulled one hell of a double leg on me and slammed me. I was so suprised I couldn't move and was winded. He RNC'ed me like 30 secs after.
The next time I was prepared...
But I learned my lesson, thats for sure

i must thank the guy that messed up my arm. i have never thought i will walk through anybody after that, and i slapped myself back to reality. it gave me drive.
since my loss i am bronze and gold in my last 2. i missed the pan ams due to my stupidity and hurt myself(i tried to bridge on a throw and land on my feet to counter), but i am set up for bjj mundialís, nationals, and u.s. open.
i have worked on my weakness by working with my bjj sensei intensivly to increase my ground game further.

watch out now!!!! judo + bjj = 100% ass kicking grappling

Judo/BJJ = 100% ass kicking(by grappling )
Sambo/Judo = Fedor and Aleks
Judo/Kickboxing = Me

If i go into MMA into the future i will invest in a few BJJ lessons although Judo is good enough for me on the ground and grappling and i am more Judo than other things but when you like at Pride and see Yoshida, a really really good Judoka but hes striking is pathetic so i hope to have a main base of Judo but have decent striking so i will invest in some striking fighting styles not BJJ but thats just me.

Yeah injuries in Judo teaches you lessons although sometimes they are necessary, i have had a broken toe(extremly broken) because i thought i would magical and land on my foot and reverse the throw i was in...it would have worked although i forgot to put my toes back and land instead i landed on my big toe and destroyed it, it was my fault i got the injury and it taught me a lesson and also made me concentrate more so i guess they have there good parts.

i do belive in striking too. i started out boxing. i was too blind by the american way of glitz and glamor to see kickboxing was the way i should have went. i have only 2 short years and only 4 fights behind my hands, i still do work it once in a while, but my love for grappling takes most of my time. i work with some of my teammates that do the sport jujitsu with the hands, but once i spared with my friend that did a few leg kicks on me and i did not want to play anymore.

Yeah i can't kick i have pathetic strength in them and my knees are bad to but my punches are going well and my elbows are ok not to good. Although for grapplers, Boxing is a good striking base which is why i may take up Boxing as well are having really bad kicking strength.

But Judo will always be my way.

Leg Kicks are very underrated, they can cause serious pain and immobilize the guy receiving the kicks. In general, kicks are very underrated with most of the general public...i have received a fair few full powered punches to the head and they didn't hurt(the head not face) and also received a broken nose but the best hit i've taken was sparring with a very good Karate friend of mine...roundhouse kick straight to my head, i wasn't knockout but i would have preferred to be seeing as i wasn't to well after it.
