Lower Back Pain

Hello fellow comrads, I have a problem. The problem is I have been weight lifting and probably with bad form so now resulting in my bearable but yet annoying lower back pain. When I try to use my hips to strike my heavy bag, I can't use full force otherwise it will hurt and it also aches throughout the day but more so when I start my daily weight lifting. I was wondering if any of you know about if hard beds or otherwise "the ground" is better for your back because I heard it could straighten it out. If it does, then I will start sleeping on the ground to help heal my back if it doesn't turn out to be anything serious. I have tried googling but all that came up was bed for sales or bed good for your back.

Also after this experience, I know I will need to get to a gym as so I won't make the same mistakes but money is an issue so I was wondering how much does a gym usually go for and at what age can you join. I am 16 by the way.

And just because I don't want to double thread, is it ok if instead of sprinting and joggin for my cardio, can I do say 30 minutes of jumping ropes instead? I think its really useful because after jumping rope for abour 20 minutes, the next day my calves were aching like crazy.

I was having back problems and went to a chiorpractor.. great results.. took a few treatments but was was much better afterwards then before the injury..

Thanks Don, but do you know if a hard surface will straighten out your back more if you sleep on it oppose to a regular bed?

I'd be careful about the chiropractor. Get an MRI first to make sure you don't have a slipped disc, herniated disc, or pars defect. I have to slipped discs and a pars defect ( I broke my L4 and L5 and didn;t know it until it healed itself) went to chiropractor and felt great afterwards but then saw a spine specialiest and said I was lucky that he didn't break my spinal cord. So moral of the story.....get an MRI froma spine specialiest if you can, do lots of core excerises( good book is core performance) and warm up and stretch

it won't hurt to sleep on a harder surface just support your loswer back and your neck so everything stay in line..

first of all yes it is ok to jump rope, skipping is excelent cardio, maybe try alturnating between skipping and bagwork/push-ups to add some variety

Back pain, i would recomend seeing some sort of specialist esp. to check out the alinment of ur spine, chances are u have too much or too little curve in ur spine (very likly caused by poor form in the gym) keep up the heavy weights but get a trainer (who knows wat they're talking about) to help with ur form and get them to have a chat to ur physio or whoever

hi,
i had EXACTLY the same problem, when i was your age!!!
It really is a pain, some days its worse than others, n when you really push yourself it hurts when you make twisting movements and what not.
I tried heat pads, rubs, everything!
But, (yes there is a but)! I found that sleeping on the floor really helps, i did it for about two months and then brought a hard really good matress and it helped alot! Also give hot baths a try, they really help to ease the muscles in your back!
Also, i know it sounds obvious, but try to thouroughly warm up before you train, especially weights! Try adding back extensions to your routine, and superman holds, as the will help to increase your core strength around the lumbar region!!! I also found that deads didnt help, so ease of the deads and the bent over rows if you do them, as the place the back at risk!!!

one reason for ur back pain may be that u weight train everyday! even if ur doing a three day split or something, ur back never gets a rest! try just taking a few days off.

just while im on the subject, A LOT OF U SEEM TO OVER TRAIN! while i personally believe u cant over train ur tecnique - you can definately over train MUSCLE.
to maintain maximal muscle growth;
train to a high intensity, 3 or 4 compound exercises to cover all muscle groups, (push, pull & legs) eg. bench press, bent over row & deadlifts
rest for 4 to 7 days, this is important as u have to give ur muscles time to heal, not just back to the way they were, but to become stronger
stretch, straight after your workout, and as much as u want on other days (just remember to warm up 1st)
dont stretch before ur workout (u wont be able to lift as much therefore u wont be able to grow as much)
