Training for my 1st MMA fight!

hi my name is jarrod shaw...

to let you know about my background i am very good at takedowns from previously being a wrestler and i just had my first fight scheduled for july 21st so ive been trying to work on my ground game and striking but im not sure what i should do to improve my striking ( im weak at hitting with my left ) and im dropping from 188 to 170 for the fight so ive been trying to limit myself to only water and eating fish/chicken and green beans..

what are you suggestions for diet/workout

Um, you should talk to your coaches about this. If you don't have any coaches, you need to get some ASAP.

Ummmm yea i really wouldnt take the fight if i were u. Learning off training video's???? You do realize this isn't a game right? People get seriously injured in the cage. You should really think about that....

1) Do sprints/uphill running/stairs
2) To make your left hand better just keep practicing with it. Hit the heavy bag? Shadow box? Whatever. Boxing is all about repetition.
3) As far as your diet goes, eat healthy. Eat lots of grains, veggies, chicken, fruits, fish, etc. Make sure to drink milk too.

I knew a wrestler at my highschool who was said to be one of the good ones. I heard he got into a cage and some guy knocked him down and threw elbows into his face beating him pretty quickly and easily. If you are really convinced on taking the fight I suggest to just take him down and lay on him. If you don't appeal to what you know, you will get your ass owned.

Encouragement? most people will do fine if they train well for it and are prepared although i agree he should get coaches but he can fight and train without them it is just much better to have them.

Jshaw.

Everyone starts off bad with the hand they don't use for everything else so practice with it...jab jab and jab for a while etc. also shadowbox with weights it will increase speed and power but to much weight can be bad for your technique.

I have a fair bit of other knowledge but nothing compared to Wukkadb and Ironman i suggest you read their training logs.
