Tip of the day thread.

This thread is intended to display the accumulated knowledge of our forum members. The topic title tip of the day is not quite accurate but I thought a thread to highlight any unique tips or tricks that a particular poster encounters would be a good idea. So, display random knowledge or share a unique trick that can advance the game of our forum members here. I have a few, but for now i'll start off with a simple one.

The next time you go for an arm bar (if your regulations allow it) lock the entire hand in your grasp, as if you were handshaking. It adds a ton of leverage and allows the "thumbs up" position to be obtained much more efficiently.

Kidney shots are more effective than people make them out to be.

yeah you could bruise someones kidneys up fairly easily with a well placed kick, knee or punch (if your on the ground) and it hurts like heck. By the way for those of you who dont know where your kidneys are exactly they are behind your ab area on either side of the spine

oh yes... punch the kidneys good for the bloody pee-pee.
Liver is way effective. ever see boxing where a guy gets in the liver and spends next 5-10 minutes in fetal position?
ALSO; there mostly are no bruises , lack of which is helpful when someone tries to get popos involved. BUT you can also kill someone, so be careful

Americana Tweaks

When going for an Americana:

I'm assuming you already know how to do an Americana. If you don't, look it up on www.lockflow.com first.

Let's assume you're going for his left arm. With the figure four locked in, "motorcycle" his left wrist out before pulling his elbow in to his body. In other words, you're holding his left wrist with your left hand. Roll his left wrist outward like you're accelerating on a motorcycle. Then pull his elbow in to his side.

For a lot of people, you won't even have to lift their elbow to get the submission. As soon as you motorcycle their wrist out and pull their elbow in toward their body they'll tap.

This is especially useful when someone has flexible shoulders. You may have to lift their elbow at the end, but you won't have to lift it very far!

When delivering knees either from half guard or a clinched standing position, consider aiming for the hip bone. Good contact to the side of the hip bone will leave a nasty cut at the waist band (just like gashing an eyebrow) on top of that a good deal of nerves in the lower body run right through that zone so not only will you provide a unique annoyance but you'll throw your opponnent into a bit of unexpected pain.

Good point. Yoga builds incredibly isometric strength.

Yeah, I highly recommend everyone here find a good yoga instructor. We are always looking for a different way to work out right?
