Losing weight?

Hey guys. I've been on working out 5 days a week for a couple months now. On the bike, deadlifts, pullups, chinups, presses, flys, situps, pushups, suicide runs, you name it. Obviously i'm trying to gain some weight here. I started off at about 186 pounds ( 6'2'') and i just weighed myself.. i'm down to 170. I eat a lot of chicken, fish, fruits, vegetable juice, wheat, and take about 30 grams of protein after my workouts. If i continue to workout, will the muscle gain begin to outbalance the weight loss or what?

To gain weight you must consume more calories than you were previously. There is no way around it. If you consumed 2500 calories a day before you started working out, to put weight on you are going to need to consume more than 2500 calories. If you eat the same you will lose weight due to using more energy for exercise. This is in very basic terms.

If you are gaining muscle at the same time (which it sounds like you are) then you are going to need to eat a lot more, due to muscle using more energy than fat (which it seems you may be losing).

You need to make sure you weigh yourself at the same time everyday too. A good time is in the morning after going to the bathroom, if you have a large-ish drink of water/juice before you sleep to keep you hydrated through the night. This way you have no "extra" weight inside you.

Weight gain is all about eating LOTS of food. You won't gain weight from working out, you'll gain weight from diet

thanks guys. that seems to be the problem. I'm eating very lean foods and obviously not getting enough calories to gain weight.

A few good ways to add calories and weight to your diet are as follow:
-drink 3-5 glasses of milk a day.
-add milk to your protein shakes
-set your alarm to 2 AM every day and drink a casein shake
-snack on almonds, cashews, avacados, and/or trail mix
-eat veggies at every meal
-eat protein at every meal
-eat lots of potatoes
-eat til you feel sick....then eat more

yeah.. it seems pretty tough but my dad had some massive pipes in his 20's and he said he not once took a supplement, he just ate an average diet. Walked many kilometers to school every, worked out regularly, and played a lot of sports.
