Imput needed on Weight / Class

Hey everyone,

Im 20 and just getting into the MMA scene. I have been working out at the gym now for about a week so no real results yet. I weighed 158 when I started working out last saturday 3/15. Now I weigh 152 3/20. This happens to me quite a bit. I'm not sure how my height to weight ratio is good or not at 5'9" : 152 lbs. In Wisconsin as far as I know the lowest weight class I've found for fighting is 170

Now the plan I have is to get in shape first before I start training hardcore to get in fighting shape. I turn 21 in November so I would plan on wanting my first fight around then. I have no type of training but there are places where I can go for free to jump in during their mma classes on Tues/Thur/Sundays. I plan on going to the classes on Sundays only for now because my schedule and budget doesn't have room for me to drive an hour and a half 3 days a week.

Let me know what you guys think about my build and if i need to gain weight, whats the best way to do so? Let me know about training tips/schedules as well.

P.S. I'm also taking GNC Pro Performance 60 after my workouts as a protein/whey shake.

Man, there has got to be something around there with a 155 class. If you are trying to bulk up, I'd stay around the 155, but if you are walking around at 152 around fight time, you'd probably be better suited for 145. I can't believe 170 is the lowest weight class over there. Just don't plan on gaining 18-20 pounds of muscle. It's just not that realistic in that period of time, nor is it necessary in order to be good at MMA. You don't need a bunch of muscle mass to be a good fighter (look at nate diaz). If you want to fight, and you have no opportunity in your vicinity at your weight, look elsewhere.

There's GOT to be a closer club. If there's this much in WI, there's got to be an organization that offers competition for all weight classes.

Check out for some good info on local MMA. They actually have a forum there, and you'll probably find some local guys who can help you find a good gym nearby. An hour and a half of driving to class is ridiculous, and once a week is not consistent enough to be effective training. If I don't make it three days a week at least, I feel like I'm having to relearn stuff. I hope you find something better. Good luck bud.
