I need help cutting weight for wrestling. This year I cut about 13-14 pounds and made weight everytime. I went to the saunda and did lots of running before matches. Next year I'm going to be cutting around 22 pounds. I can't be over 1.5% of my weight class every friday weigh in. Other days I can weigh as much as I want. I also have matches and tournaments on Wednesday, Friday(sometimes), and saturdays. I have around 8-9% body fat right now. Any suggestions on cutting weight? Also I have school and practice everyday so I don't want to be up til like 3 am cutting weight everyday.

I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to go below 8% bodyfat at any point throughout the year. Before the season they bring everyone to get certified - they take a bunch of measurements of your size and proportions, then calculate how much you'd weigh at 8% bodyfat. Whatever that number is, you're not allowed to weigh in below it or you can't wrestle.

4% body fat all the time is insane. Like unhealthy. I usually only have to cut around five lbs. so I just eat very little, and dip. My wrestling coach in eighth grade told me about (now I resent him for it) but its true, it really does help, but if you don't use any tobacco products already, I wouldn't start. Also when I was cutting to 171 from my weight now (about 190) I would sleep in sweats and with a few layers under it with a space heater in my room, terrible night of sleep, but it works. I've also found that you can eat a large sized salad, with just greens in it (no dressing, cheese, meat, just greens) enough till your full, and its basically just water, so the week leading up till meets when I was cutting larger amounts of weight I would eat mainly salads or liquid meals that are easier to lose the weight from. The tests yall mentioned are hydration tests, they are legally required. I love practices on those days because we always get a lot of water breaks.

If you need more tips, I could ask some of the guys on our team who cuts more weight, or I'm sure I could look some up, I hope these help you out though. 22 pounds will be bitch to cut though, good luck brother

ya thoes are good, but my coach doesnt want me to cut down it sucks, its my firt year with tournaments and such coming up and its also my senior year and the weight i wanna drop to is 171(im 196)but ive got football before wrestling and all summer to lose that so i could have done it but theres a kid way better then me at 171 i just thought if i dropped down id have a huge size advantage but instead my coach wants me to wrestle at 189 where most of the kids are bigger then me and way more experienced, so i have an interesting year coming up...lol

I would start practicing... A lot. Go to the mats every chance you get, work on your technique as much as you can, we had a kid on our team this year (215) place 3rd in states, it was his first year. And he was a junior, so this coming up season he has a shot at winning states. But yea, I would just hit the mats as much as you can to work on your technique, it will be hard with football, but in the season it'll pay off. We started open mats a few weeks before school ended and now its a few times a week. So newer guys will have a lot more experience then if they came into the season never having wrestled.

Camps are good, I'm near the University of Virginia, the wrestling team isn't that great, but the camps and facilities are great so I get to as many of those as I can. Cornell is pretty good though if I recall correctly, so that camp should be intense, I would take as much away from it as you can, and be in shape when you get there. Probably be lots of running.

I was thinking about going to the Cornell camp too. Have you gone before? Was it good?

this is my schools first year going so i have no idea, but it looked really good, im going from june 29th to july 3rd not very long and it cost $439 but its supposed to be very good, we get rooms and food for the nights we're there so its not that bad of a deal i guess just as long as u learn a lot, but in my mind its still really expensive...lol

With your body fat percentage and the amount of difficulty your having trying to get smaller, have you thought about getting bigger? If your coach wants to put you in at 189, your having so much trouble getting any smaller, it could work much better if you bulk up. Although I dont know the specifics of the weight classes you use over there, im sure 20-30 extra pounds of pure muscle could help, and being accustomed to smaller weight classes, you would have the technique that larger competitors often lack. Sure, you would start off with a massive size disadvantage, but as you bulk up that would disapear within a few months.
Of course, I dont know the exact circumstances, but just something for you to think about. A lot of guys are so busy trying to make a certain weight class they dont even try getting to the top of the one they're in.
