Cool Just starting out....help?

Good morning all, and thanks for checking out my thread. I'm new to the whole MMA in general, as far as doing it but have been watching it for years. I just called a local MMA gym today to find out more about their gym and how to get started.

My problem is this. I've been a BIG kid all my life, I am currently 6'1 and 300lbs. I have a huge frame just need to work on my gut and my back other than that I'm pretty sold from riding dirtbikes all my life. My main reason for wanting to get into MMA is to loose major weight both in training and diet.

So, what do you think is the best way to start into this sport besides just going to a gym that does MMA? I mean I've never been to a gym more than a week in a row, but if you look at my credit cards it says I've been going for years. But that's my big problem, going to the gym and just lifting weights for the hell of it get's boring, that's why I think MMA would be great for me! Something I can learn and something I can use in life.

Any suggestions or points that I should work on?

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Consistency is key. Ease into your training. Remember, going and doing easy, light workouts is still better than doing nothing at all. As time goes on you can up the intensity, but don't rush things. Also, remember that you're there for you - try not to make it a chore. Enjoy it.

One of the guys that trains in my school takes all the Brazilian Jiujitsu classes ( he started at about 300 pounds) it was hard at first (like for anyone) and a little more due to the weight... but he's now down to 260 and has two stripes on his belt.

Wherever you start go slow and keep to it... and talk to the trainers, instructors and LISTEN to your body!!!
