Calorie Question

Right now, Im attending highschool. I was wondering how many calories I burn per hour while attending school. School is mostly consisting of sitting, thinking, and writing obviously. According to some internet calculator, I burn around seventy calories per hour just reading so I guess I burn around four-hundred and twenty calories throughout the school day. Im quite a noob at this calorie stuff, so I was just wondering if you guys think that that is a reasonable estimate or not.

Also, every day after school, I lift weights for around an hour and a half, doing sets of twelve for everything and taking around thirty second breaks after each set. Im not sure if this would be "vigourous" or "moderate" lifting, so I dont know how to calculate my calorie usage. Im guessing around 520. Is this a reasonable guess?

It's not necessarily a bad guess, but I'd suggest you go ahead and calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate- it's just a good baseline to judge off of.

You really have to go by your weight to determine exactly how many calories you burn, but I wouldn't focus solely on that.

Firing the neurons in your brain requires a bit of calories, especially when you are frustrated.

I actually have a study somewhere in my research notes about how my brain consumes calories during different phases of thought and emotion. If I can dig it up I'll post.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna try to calculate my basal metabolic rate atm.

Ok, so according to, my basal metabolic rate is 1514.6 caliores per day. Im gonna round that to 1514 calories.

1514 / 24 =~ 63 calories per hour.

I've also heard that thinking/learning takes some more calories, so 70 calories per hour is indeed a reasonable number.

So I burn at least 2020 calories a day.

Therefore, in order to maintain my weight, I need to eat the same amount of calories.

Lets see:
Breakfast ~270 calories
Lunch ~500 Calories
Protein Shake: 200 Calories
Dinner ~500
Fruit after Dinner: ~70 Calories

Total: 1540 Calories.

Hmm I think I should eat more LOL. At the moment I eat extremely healthy, low fat meats, wheat breads, and vegetables and fruits, and rice everyday. Somehow this doesn't quite add up, because I'm not losing any weight. My goal right now is to get down to about 4 percent body fat, I'm around 7 right now. I think I'll leave everything the same for around 1 month, then reweigh myself. Btw, I'm also getting stronger, in the past two months, I have increased almost all chest workouts by 20 lbs, biceps 20 lbs, and shoulders 20 lbs. I guess I'm just weird.
